:bsmilie: That's what I thought as well. Currently I'm slogging my butt off at work. Hope to get a Sigma 120-300mm by the end of the year. Heard that this is an awesome sports lens. Not that I do sports either.

there was a few nikon lens user there too but not as many as Canon...but i was amazed with the number of female photographers there... If my memory is good.. the lady in green was holding it handheld.

Added:
Note i saw 5 female sports photographers/journalists there with all the L lenses.

I was there, the lady is not using monopod see for yourself!! But the other lady was using it.

I'd say you probably won't regret it - provided you REALLY NEED to have one.

But do be aware - its a heavy bugger coming in at 2.5kg, you'll need a monopod most of the time. Read more about the lens before you purchase it.

It hasn't got IS so there are "limitations". The HSM almost as fast as the USM counterpart.
Images out from the lens with is actually pretty stunning.

she using 300 f2.8 but there were more 400 f2.8 than 300 f2.8

She was using the EF 300mm f2.8L.

Are you buying to couple with your mk III? :bsmilie:

300mm f2.8L is for wimps. Get the 400mm f2.8L better! Bigger, heavier, LARGER!    SIZE counts!

What I would like to have most now, are the following items:
1. Wide Angle Lens
2. Backup FF camera

For item 1, I am considering 16-35 Mk2 and for item 2, waiting for the 1Ds Mk 3 to come out. Hence, bazooka is not in the list yet as I have not really thought of what I want to shoot, using the bazooka yet.

I was just impressed that the lady can hold a bazooka without the aid of a tripod/monopod. For me, I will be trembling and complaining the weight.

WA? get 14mm L la ...
1Ds Mk3? - get MF + digital back since got $$$...

300 can handhold la ... personally have seen a few people do it. I did it once with a 1 series... no issues.

true, actually 300 f2.8 is not heavy at all compared to 70200f2.8is. The real big guns start from 400 f2.8

The tele lens is just about the only thing 'missing' from my setup at the moment. Already have a standard zoom and a macro lens. Today I was frustrated again with how many photos I missed just because I was without a tele lens.

I could probably make do with a 100-400mm, but if I'm going to do it, might as well do it good. Buy once and hope not to buy again. I read many nice things about the Sigma...a monopod will definitely be on the cards if I get this lens. It's advice that's been given time and again, so there must be some truth in it.

Best part is the price...a fraction of the 300mm f/2.8L IS. Of course, it doesn't have IS, and it's not white. But it's a zoom.

WA? get 14mm L la ...

Or, if you can live with a 3rd party lens, get the Sigma 12-24mm. Can be soft as a baby's bottom wide open, but stop down (as most would for the purposes for which this lens is used for), and it's all good.

maybe she forgot to bring tripod? :bsmilie:

A friend of mine in the industry told me tripods aren't allowed in the press section, only monopods. I think he said it was 'cause it was a "dangerous item"?
