OMD & Panny 100-300

Hi, Hacker, tsammyc and Oly5050 - thanks very much for the sharing. I happened to checked with SLRR this afternoon and there is no stock for the Oly but now, after reading the two reviews:

Panasonic Lumix G Vario 100-300mm f/4.0-5.6 Zoom Lens Review
Olympus M.ZUIKO ED 75-300mm f/4.8-6.7 Lens Review

I am thinking of the Panny now as I loose only the 75-100 range (I can make up with the digital tele-converter function of the OM-D if I really need to) but gained in brightness and lower cost. I was really gunning for the Oly but these two reports (I take it as done similiarly) point more to the Panny.

This choice so difficult to make. Anyone think I am making a mistake to go for the Panny please yell hor - can only to buy it once! Many thanks.

I really did not think the extra half stop made any difference. What I did remember is that the focusing is somewhat faster. I would think the difficulty In selecting the lens is because they both have different strengths and weaknesses, and they perform almost identically, depending on whether you look at the edge, the centre, and at what focal length. I preferred a smaller package, faster AF, and lighter lens. The CA can be corrected in LR, which is true for all Oly lenses. CA is corrected natively by Panasonic.

The 100-300 is as good as it comes at a decent price. You won't regret.

Both are fine. If you have a Panasonic body the choice is easy, Panasonic for the OIS. If you have an Olympus body I would take the Olympus lens coz it's lighter but that's just me. Anyway, you won't miss the range from 75-100mm, don't fool yourself. ;-) The Panasonic makes a lot of sense, it's brighter and has less chromatic aberrations.

When I was making the decision, I read all the reviews and it was a wash in terms of IQ, so price was the main deciding factor. I suspect the Panny outsells the Oly by quite a margin because the Oly seldom comes up on the B&S
