OM-D?

yup...

you know, i always wondered. whenever i posted such questions on Flowerpod, the girls always said i made them think even more about what i said and question the idea.

but when i post the same sentence in CS, guys just leave it as it is and not mull over it.

i wonder if it's because guys can't think :bsmilie:

It's not that we can't think but maybe we think differenly. As i said, for us (us being those who like to try the latest gear), the gear is very much part of the hobby. And this is the same as other hobbies like hifi, golf, etc.

consumerism! gear will always be a part of the hobby. planned obsolescence, throw-away culture.. we'll always want the shinier new toy. thats the way our capitalist economy works in the first place!

Nahh !

...tell a guy to go from A to B to buy a shirt and he'll walk from A to B and buys the shirt.

...tell your girl friends the same thing and they'll walk from A to k to m to z and back to c followed by a trip to the L(ladies) tea session at d then divert to x followed by p and some shopping at J as well as G then when all tired out head on to H (home) ...in the end, did not enter B, did not buy the da*n shirt !!!

and that's the differences !

I attracted to OMD mostly because of its retro styling..

If Sony come out with new cam with retro look with A-mount.. i am a happy man.. haha

I am too hehehe as I own m4/3 and had some lenses to go with it also. OMD or EM5 IQ and ISO is not bad and Dynamic range is pretty good also Oly did something awesome they are narrowing the gap between APSC and 4/3 sensor capabilities. Ofcourse NEX7 24MP is just great specially when you're cropping your photos you will still retain tons of details. Sony needs to bring more e-system native lenses else they will have hard time bringing folks from other sides. Adapter option is an options only :-)

Still have my GF1. Very hard to go over NEX 7 though I like it more.:dunno:
Limited E lenses especially Carl Zeiss. Only 1. :nono:
In the end, get a Panny 7 -14 f/4 for my GF1. New wide Zoom lens:thumbsup:
E lenses do not have so wide lens
May get OM-D when my GF1 dies

The EM5 is looking very good indeed, I have never given all previous M4/3 any serious consideration before but the EM5 does have potential ...just imagining what the EM6 would be like ! ;)

Actually for the Sony Nex, I don't bother following what E-mount lens they are releasing next, I've stumbled upon the world of FSU lenses and it's extremely addictive ...in a period of 6 months I've amassed a total of 12 FSU lenses, not bad considering that each of them are capable of IQ comparable to CZ or Leica.

Hehe same here bro my m4/3 I maninly use MF lenses like those Russian, Canon FL. Recently I made my 1st m4/3 AF lens purchase the Panasonic-Lieca 25mm f1.4 love the IQ and the so called-bokeh and isolation but I hate the plastic body (well most modern lenses are or have plastic parts anyways) still prefer the older lens that's made of metal feel solid when holding.

About EM-5 I still cant swallow the price its within the price range of A77 body :o

PS. So you're the one hooting all the Russian lenses in the BnS everytime I ask the seller most of them have been sold already :P

Wah bro, your lens collection really growing. You bought the PL25 brand new?

Anyway, my lens collection almost complete.
I went to funan with the intention to buy a light tripod for an upcoming trip. Then i very itchy backside.
I decided that i will step into a couple of "better avoid" stores :nono: due to bad reputations, to inquire the PL25mm.
I thot, if they have stocks, and the price not too high, i will just pay for it since i going for a trip from this weekend.
And i got lucky, got a piece at a very good price.:) Local set with warranty. totally no gimmicks, the salesman never chut pattern.
So, i accidentally spent more money.
In my heart, I was smiling, but at the same time, i know i will have a tough time explaining to my CFO.

Just bite the bullet, the EM-5 will be a good partner for your A77. And if possible, introduce a threesome with a Nex7.;)

just get the X-pro1. 3K at Song Brothers :bsmilie:

As in many other areas, output quality is related to the size and complexity of the equipment.

I have used M43, the DOF is too much and ISO performance was terrible, even if I process in raw.
End of the day, had to settle at APS-C for travel and FF for serious work.

Of course, if your expectations are not as high, by all means use M43 or a compact and save yourself the extra weight and hassle.
Not much point in asking others, its all about yourself.

With all due respect, the new sensor in the EM-5 and the weaker AA filter plus the new trupic VI engine makes IQ to close to and in some cases suppassing APS-C. Just read the latest DPR review where the E-M5 scored 80% and Gold award. In the past the older 12Mpx sensors in the first and second gen Pens cannot compare.

quite the sweeping statement. you should know that the DPR Reviews and scoring system is based on cameras in the similar class. so it's not really that fair to compare it to APS-C Sensor cameras.

Indeed sensor technology has improved much in the last 2 years. Even PNS has acceptable noise levels depending on your application.
But size is size, in engineering, there is no compensating for lack of it.
For any improvement in the M43 sensor, scale it up to APSC, u get an improved performance. Scale it up to FF, u get more improvement.
Some critics argue why DXO downsize their images to the same MP for noise comparison, in actual fact, it is a fair method in engineering terms.

If EM5 has fulfilled your requirements, by all means use it and be happy with it. Its light, stylish and cool looking.
Its all about your own application and levels of acceptability.

Once upon a time, i was very satisfied with my 4MP Panasonic PNS too.
Until I had to take pictures of running kids and so on and the requirement changed.....

I got a good price also from MSColor they did a very mental job on me when they price me and hit the 7XX price for PL25, what i did was to give up my PL 14-42X pancake lens to the damage for PL25 wont be that huge. For EM5 hmmmm see how EPL2 still works for me for now m4/3 mainly for fun shooting nothing serious yet and mainly for portraits. Will wait a bit more until cant resist haha

To me I would say the EM-5 had come a long way to reach what it is now as a nuetral person and dont own the EM-5 based on what I've read and seen test review I think EM-5 had narrow the gap between APS-C and 4/3 Sensor, Noise handling of EM-5 was great it's almost as good as NEX-5n if I must compare, Dynamic range had improved also comparing with same 16MP APSC or to my late A33 14MP I would say it's pretty close really close. Comparing to A77 and NEX7 you could tell.

At the end of the day each has it's own requirements and needs, if you shoot to earn money it's better off using FF to get the best DR, ISO performance and over all IQ. Maybe for someone who's like me shoot to relax and after a busy week at work our expectations may not be as high as others. We cant really compare m4/3 with FF or APSC sensor. Let's all respect each other here and try to avoid a sweeping staments against anybody. We're all here to enjoy and have fun not pick up a fight

cheers guys!

Almost all the FSU lense are metal and can be used as a weapon in a pinch ! ;)

Price is one thing, the other is the tiny buttons on the EM-5 which (IMHO are spaced too closely together) I find it difficult to press without looking at them, I have no doubt they will improve upon with the EM-6.

PS: Noolah !:bsmilie: ...I got all my FSU stuff direct from the FSU (mostly Ukraine) and have nothing short of amazement at their price performance ratio. I read someone who said that FSU lense are criminally under-rated and totally agree.

I've noticed that after the initial Nex 3 and 5 launches, a typical FSU lens could be had for S$30 easily, today it's closer to S$50 on average which means the the sellers are wising up and/or the supply is drying up (as they're no longer produced)

Sorry for the OT here, maybe I should start a new thread to share my FSU experience ;)

I agree with you bro using old lenses also. I have one Zenitar M2c its plastic but its darn sharp I call it plastic fantastic got it 50 plus free Zenitar TTL slr body hehehe. Same as my other Russian lenses. But currently unloved with Canon FL (not FD) hehe.

Yeah we OT already hehehe.

Going back to the topic EM5 I like to get it but if you ask me if ill ditch my DSLR? I would bluntly say NO until the time mirrorless had overtaken DSLR ill still keep a DSLR body for serious shooting not saying mirrorless can't be use for serious shooting this is just my opinion :-). But for fun shooting family outings with kids I will drop my DSLR in a heart beat and grab my mirrorless can't bring around heavy DSLR plus kids and wife all together else you won't enjoy your family outing.

Yah, the shop that i went to also stunt me with the good price. Hence, i just hoot first. I already shed off majority of my lenses in anticipation of the PL25.

Anyway, i hope i can start to concentrate on shooting now. Been playing around with cameras rather than shooting properly for the past few months.

I will bring both Nex7 (with CZ24, SEL50mm, SEL16mm with ultrawide converter) and EM-5 (with PL25, kit12-50, mZD45F1.8) for my trip next week.
With minimal overlap and almost no same focal lenght except for the kit12-50, i am less likely to do comparison test shots betweem Nex7 and EM-5. Who knows, i might pack the black SEL1855 on friday night.:bsmilie:

Hoping to be able to take shots like this. :sweatsm:http://www.mike.idv.tw/2009/12/08/493
