OM-D Price Drop?

$100 over six months is just less than $20 per month...to use and enjoy the camera on hand....for me I rather buy now if I need it or if really hungry for it.

U only live once, hehe
That's exactly what I wanted to say with my comment. It was meant to be sarcastic. ;)

Hi-five! :)

Yeah another $100 price drop is always worth waiting about 6 months. +1 lol

Cue the sarcasm banner (ala Big Bang Theory) please! LOL!

I pre-ordered the E-M5 and paid $1,700+ as an early adopter, although I sold the free MMF-3 to recoup part of the cost. I even splurged on a 25mm f/1.4 lens. I'm so glad I took the plunge! The E-M5 was the best camera I could bring to my Europe vacation, and the 25/1.4 was literally the best standard lens I've ever used. I took thousands of shots and brought back two full 16GB cards with fond memories of a distant land. The price was so worth it.

So, if you have tested the camera and know that it is what you want, GO FOR IT. Don't wait for price drops because it is endless.

Few reasons i would think:
- Em5 is considered "old" in the rapid consumer market. And there's many new exciting camera stuff that came out in photokina this week, so some would sell in anticipation of new stuff/price drop.
- Em5 is also probably one of the most sellable m43 even though most exp, so generally there would be more people selling it down the road than other models
- Difference in expectations of what OMD is.

Agree bro and also most folks buy play and sell, sell early some more due to new toy coming or just dont want to to get a huge hit as you hold the item specially body longer the price drops more.

so so true, the joy of shooting with the right gears capturing that moment; priceless

And definitely worth the small amount you would save. Well, I have to say it depends on the camera. D800/E and 5D Mark III dropped tremendously but in the same time the OMD E-M5 didn't.

Just buy what you can afford and not necessary the best. It is better to enjoy taking photo with some cash in the pocket than to have worry about bills and debts.

If money is not the main issue, just buy what you like.

Playing with my OMD together with some old 50mm and 35mm OM lenses. Pictures looked great. Will wait for the next top mft camera to arrive, probably the OMD Pro 1.

I'm one of the seller for my omd.. I'm selling to move to ff as I'm always fond of the narrow dof that ff offers.. but imo for travel camera., omd + 12-35 and one tele zoom is one of the best options.. I think because of new entry ff some user are selling their gear and moving to ff.. be it m43 or apsc.. another reason is fuji lover which previously jump to omd might switch back as they improve the af speed of x pro in recently new firmware updates..

unlikely, those are 2 totally different cameras.

also, demand is high, so yeap

The af speed is overhyped by Fuji..
There are improvements after the update but it is nowhere near OM-D..

OMD AF speed is not very fast either to be frank.

Yup, it could be more reliable especially. My GH2 has still a more reliable AF in all shooting situations. I think the E-M5's AF is a bit overrated and hyped.

Both Panasonic and Olympus have been hyping on their "fastest in the world" AF system like teenagers with inferiority complex. Why do I say that? One of the main concerns about mirrorless systems (vs. DSLR) is the AF system. CDAF is associated with slowness because of its use in PnS cameras and Live View modes (which are slow as snails on DSLRs). And for many years that was true. It was only recently with the release of the E-P3 and GH-2 that the situation changed.

That said, under tough conditions, both CDAF and PDAF will fail to acquire focus. Surprisingly, that is where m4/3 actually shines: you can get a magnified view in the EVF to aid MF. You have to rely on the LCD screen for DSLRs, which is unwieldy to say the least, especially if your camera and lens are heavy (60D + 15-85 is already over 1kg. Imagine 5D Mk III and 70-200 f/2.8L!)

All SLRs, including dslrs can simply change their focus screens to the type they like to aid manual focusing. Split prism, matte ground glass etc. Magnified view takes long and harder to compose imho. I prefer focus peaking for these mirrorless which again, maybe inaccurate at larger dofs. All systems hav pros and cons.

Yup and everybody has a different opinion as well. :) I prefer focus peaking for manual focusing over everything else no matter what other people prefer. lol
