I haven't had the time to go out and shoot these few evenings and the weather's been pretty bleak too ;p Then again, when the weather's good I'm either working in the office or busy with family :sweatsm:
Build wise the lens is well made and focusing speed is about the same as the 14-42 Kit lens
Distorsion is not an issue (for me at least)
9mm is someting you have to experience to appreciate :thumbsup:
Sharpness is on par with all my other lenses IMO.

Here are some pics I took over the weekend.
In terms of framing and composition I admit the pics are really boring, but they should suffice to give you a feel for what you can do with this WA Lens.
The IQ is pretty decent. And distorsion is relatively well controled. Sharpness is on par with the SQ range of lenses. But watch your perspectives when composing... this is typical of ultra-wides but it's also their appeal IMO.

A little soft on the edges ........ :think:
I thought so about the first image too. Until i looked closer and realised it was depth of field rather than blurry edges.

anyone tried taking a group shot at 9mm with the lens ? I tend to take group shots indoors at night, so need a flash. As with a flash, I can't stand too far away, or the flash is not powerful enough, so need a wide angle lens like the 9-18mm. However, I'm concerned that the perspective at 9mm might distort the faces and makes them look unnatural.
there will definitely be geometric distortion..try not to place them at the extreme sides of the frame? Make sure your flash can cover that wide also, most probably you will have to use some sort of diffusion to enhance the coverage of your flash.
I think this is where wireless flash is useful
I've two flashes, FL50R and a FL36. I've those cheapo wireless radio triggers, PT04. While the PT04 is not consistent, it only work 60% of the time, it's good enough for me, as I'm not a pro and as long as I get a few good flashes, I'm good.
So I'm thinking of putting the flashes at each end of the group, radio wireless of course. Would this be a better option or just use a single flash (FL50R) mounted on the camera and diffuse it. I've the Demb Jumbo Pro Flip-It product. Not sure if that will diffuse it to an angle that's wide enough. Maybe the Stofen will do a better job.
So you're saying as long I avoid the edges, the people in photo should look normal enough, no large noses, or strange perspective from the 9-18mm ?
