And... for those who are interested, the diagonal AOV for 9mm on a Four-Thirds DSLR is 100° 30'.. still wider than the 12-24mm for Canon and Nikon. But not as wide as the 10-20mm lens though.

That's not true. And by FOV, I presume you are actually referring to Angle of View
The 7-14mm does provide the widest FOV for APS-C/Four Thirds type DSLR system.
The 7-14mm on a Four-Thirds DSLR actually has a diagonal AOV of 114° 12' at 7mm focal length
The 12-24mm lens on the Canon APS-sensor DSLR has a diagonal AOV of 96° 21' and 99° 36' on a Nikon APS-sensor DSLR at 12mm focal length

Even if we consider the Sigma 10-20mm ultra-wide, the diagonal AOV on the Canon and Nikon is 106° 35' and 109° 41' respectively at 10mm focal length.... nowhere near that of the 7-14mm on the Four-Thirds DSLRs

You can check the AOV for any focal length and any sensor size at this site:
http://www.imaginatorium.org/stuff/angle.htm

By the way, the sensor size for the various DSLRs as given in dpreview are:
Canon: 22.3mm x 14.9mm
Nikon: 23.6mm x 15.8mm
Four-Thirds: 17.3mm x 13.0mm

Hi Tomcat,

I am actually referring to Sigma 12-24 on full frame shd provide the widest disgonal AOV, it actually provide 122 degree view. where as 7-14 only 114 degree.

Problem is no one is posting sample image of 9mm, and then taking the same picture with one of the kit lenses (14-42, 14-45, 14-54) at 14mm to show how much wider the 9mm is...without a reference ALL of the sample images I've seen so far have been USELESS!

That would be good. Should add in the 11-22mm for comparison as well?

As an option, sure along with the Sigma 10-20mm, but most people will have had experience with one of the three kit lenses all starting at 14mm...even if they sold their 14-XXmm lens they can still relate to it.

Check this review out. It's got the comparisons.

No it doesn't, it's about the 7-14mm lens, not the 9-18mm...totally different price ranges for these two lenses and the amount of rectilinear correction makes a difference.

The mm of a lens isn't everything...if it was the 7mm would be wider than the 8mm fisheye.

So which IS the widest then? Is it still the canon 12 mm - on the FF dSLR?

A friend who attend the Olympus workshop last night says that the unofficial word about it's price will be around SG$600 more or less.

read from other forums, I think malaysia someone got quoted at RM1980 but only available early Nov'08.

Impressive lens. Though I highly doubt that S$600 price tag considering that its already going for 450GBP. Even if you take away the VAT of 17.5%, it'll probably still end up around S$1000.

The distortion looks pretty complicated. I think it will be harder to correct.

Here's a link to another Forum with good photos of the 9-18 as well as several samples...

The size of the Olympus lens is smaller than the Sigma 10-20mm tat i bought recently...
