I want one too! Now...to justify the need for another lens.....

What is missing is to see the build quality of this lens... hope it does not disappoint... cannot wait for this lens to be officially released... must be pretty pretty soon...

Dear Olympus,

Please build 9-18mm at least like the build of 70-300mm, Please do not build something like 14-42 kit lens. oh yes, metal mount pls.

Thanks,
Your loyalty customer.

Wanting it is good enough to justify for another lens.. :bsmilie:

I also can't wait.. i need a super wide angle w/o fisheye.. either this lens or the 7-14mm.. ;p

Isn't the lack of weather proofing enough to make your choice for you?

7-14 and 14-54 and 50-200 make good combination too. Marky u have 14-54 right?

Even though the 7-14 is a SHG lens, but the lack of ability to put on a filter makes it hard to use in extreme situations, and that is why it is gone again... became sort of a while elephant for me.

I am hoping the 9-18 will be better.

Weather proofing is one thing but the price is another.. ;p

I'll probably just see how's the build and quality is like b4 i get it..

Yupz..

I would rather my lens combo be 7-14, 14-35 and 35-100.. only lacking the first 2 lenses...

This lens will not disappoint many, I think... :)

another 6k shd give u your dream combo. what about ultra tele? 90-250?

Nope.. 90-250 too heavy.. and i also dun do birding, so its not worth while for me..

U mean the 7-14 does not allow u to screw on a filter?

Also, does this mean that the 7-14 is currently the widest FOV for DSLR systems or not? ie...equivalent 14 mm FOV

You use filters? I'm still surprised that they didn't provide a filter slot at the other end. I saw the photo of the micro Four-Thirds 7-14mm and it doesn't seem to allow filters, either.

For US$700 and US$1500, I don't think there is enough difference to give up the weather proofing, but it would be nice to have the 9-18mm in the HG group. At US$700, it doesn't seem much like a lower quality lens, especially with the ED elements.

It already has disappointed considering it's only a 9-18 instead of the 8-16 as positioned on the lens road map over the past three years. As well having taken over three years to come to market.

yes, 7-14mm and 8mm Fisheye does not have screw thread to mount any filter.

7-14 is not the widest FOV for DSLR system. at this time, widest shd be 12-24mm f/4.5-5.6 EX DG HSM for Canon/Nikon FF system.

7-14 provide 114 degree FOV on four thirds system.

12-24mm f/4.5-5.6 EX DG HSM provide 122 degree FOV on canon/nikon FF system

If is a 8-16, is 1mm away from 7-14. They are gonna kill their own market for the 7-14.

Like the 14-54 killed the market for the 14-45 and 14-42? Or how about the market for he 14-54 when the 12-60 came out?

If there is a significant difference in quality mm wont affect it.

I always had my eye on the 7-14, but since they announced a standard quality ultra wide three years ago, I held off not because of the mm, but because it was an ultra-wide that fit my budget.

That's not true. And by FOV, I presume you are actually referring to Angle of View
The 7-14mm does provide the widest FOV for APS-C/Four Thirds type DSLR system.
The 7-14mm on a Four-Thirds DSLR actually has a diagonal AOV of 114° 12' at 7mm focal length
The 12-24mm lens on the Canon APS-sensor DSLR has a diagonal AOV of 96° 21' and 99° 36' on a Nikon APS-sensor DSLR at 12mm focal length

Even if we consider the Sigma 10-20mm ultra-wide, the diagonal AOV on the Canon and Nikon is 106° 35' and 109° 41' respectively at 10mm focal length.... nowhere near that of the 7-14mm on the Four-Thirds DSLRs

You can check the AOV for any focal length and any sensor size at this site:
http://www.imaginatorium.org/stuff/angle.htm

By the way, the sensor size for the various DSLRs as given in dpreview are:
Canon: 22.3mm x 14.9mm
Nikon: 23.6mm x 15.8mm
Four-Thirds: 17.3mm x 13.0mm
