help guys! just joined the xz1 gang today.

Any idea where can i get the one sided strap for the xz1? seems like they give us the neck strap which is redundant since they also free casing with strap. I want the one to wrap around the wrist.

Don't buy the Olympus wrist strap. It's a bit short. Unless your hands are small, you find it restrictive if you have it on yr right hand and try to hold the cam in shooting position. Also true when operating the buttons with yr right hand

i just got it last week, wondering if anyone know where i can get a screen protector

anyone know if we can use m4/3 VF2 on the XZ1?

You should have bought it from the shop you bought the camera from

I got the OP-Tech strap from Cathay Photo. Long enough for our hands. About $17 IIRC. I got the 3 strap set for $31

I just got back from a business cum holiday trip in KL. Used XZ-1 for some shots in the function hall in a hotel lit w tungsten... like what the other guy commented in this thread... the image quality does not look that impressive w WB set to tungsten somehow. I tried a few other, but nothing seemed to fit...

other than that... while I was in the lobby area, which was not lit nicely, i realised that the "candle" mode settings is not as effective as M or P mode somehow. I preferred the latter... the pictures in candle mode somewhat is much muted, the colours are not true and to make things worst, a few options are invalid while you are in that mode.

I tend to leave the camera in A mode most of the time.

Question to the lau jiaos... I got 2 kids ... active... running around, night photography w street lights... i would like to capture them, ... what would be your best bet? :) All my shots turned out to be crappy :( hear from you guys, thanks heaps!!!

Try using the slow sync flash as fill in dim lighting. Night photography - I prop it up by resting it on a railing, against walls but still some motion blur. A Manfrotto pocket tripod MP1-C is attached to it permanently - of limited use but better than nothing. Best is still a tripod.

HI guys, whats the best pricing for the XZ-1 now?
I got quotes from shops around funan ranging between $590 - $550 with the standard case and 8gb card. Prices seem to have fallen drastically in just 6mths!

Yeah It's about there now. I bought mine at $650 from Challenger only in June 2011 and now I see about $598 in Funan

Hello folks,

I am considering btw xz1 and canon g12 now, more leaning towards xz1. :)

Anyone would be so kind to share more of your xz1 fotos? I am particularly interested in the shallow depth of field shots of portraits...

Check G12 telephoto aperture.
Compare w zx1 aperture at 112mm.
Sensor size also play a part.

both are still quite limited for thin DOF portraits. if you are really keen on and can afford it, the fujifilm x10 is better than both, but picture quality comes with size penalty - can't change the law of physics.

Thank u for the replies.

I bought a white xz1 2 days ago and it's a vast upgrade for me, who was only using fujifilm f200exr.

I bought a xz1 yesterday and tested it.... quite impressed with iso100, color accurate and vibrant... but have a small problem when using the screen at night, the screen is very noisy when u points it to dark color object... is this normal?? like to hear from xz1 owner..

same thing for me.. think its normal.. but under normal condition with light the picture quality i would say its very close to DSLR quality..

Thanks Linmei, I think it should be normal.... thanks..
I like to purchase an external charger for my xz1 and thinking of getting third party one from ebay, is it ok to use third party charger for original battery??

I bought the third party external battery charger, it's ok to use, but I definately won't recommend charging the original battery with it, but charging third party batteries are fine (*third party battery in ebay cost like $6 to $8, so expendable, haha*), try not to use the third party external charger to charge overnight, I think I spoiled one of the third party battery doing that, haha

As for the use of XZ-1, so far I used it for 1 year or so, the picture quality is definately good for web sharing on facebook, looked close to dslr quality under good lighting.

Low light wise, it is decent if you don't pixel peep on the full res picture, there is a low light setting which you can try to use, the camera will fix the ISO to 400 or so, picture looked decent.

As for me, when taking indoor/low light pictures, I use Shutter Priority mode, set to a decent shutter speed that will not cause any blur to the picture, then set ISO to Auto, the XZ-1 is pretty intelligent, the ISO will range from 200 to 800. Picture at ISO 400 to 800 is still decent for web sharing in Facebook. If not you can try to use Shutter Priority then set the ISO to fix at 200, the camera will lag a bit due to the fixed ISO but the picture still looked decent.

Bokeh in XZ-1 is overrated in portrait photos it is not anything close to bokeh in good light or low light compare to DSLR most of the time unless you use Aperture mode at 1.8 and try to get your subject to fill up the whole LCD display and provided the background is a few metre away from your subject then you get some bokeh from it, but the Super Macro focus mode takes really good bokeh picture when you macro in on a toy, food, or small accessories, under good decent lighting, the bokeh looks pretty impressive :)

Super macro focus mode can allow you to position the camera to the toy, ring, food or small accessories as close as 1cm which is damn impressive since I think only DSLR with specific lens can achieve this.

Auto White balance of XZ-1 is very good most of the time, but sometime under low light and yellowish fluorescent light, the white balance is off, the portrait photos looked yellowish. I took a lot of portrait photos, so this is what I found out so far. But you can edit the white balance in raw if you are taking the photos in raw format so it is not that big a problem if you don't mind going to raw and edit using the raw editing software provided.

Hey checking this for a friend, what is the price right now? RCP is $598.

What about MScolor, TKfoto and etc?
