14.drizzle OM4 50F1.4 - Lens is fungus, anybody can recommend a repair shop? What battery do you guys use for OM4 as my battery drains very fast, in two days.
hi..
I had a OM4 with the stock lens which was pass down to me around 6 months ago.
I agree what LYSANDER has mentioned that this camera have a battery drain problem. I've tried putting new batteries and took a few shot and left in on the shelf for about a week with setting the shutter to B, but when i pick it up a week later, it was flat.
Called up the service center and they told me they don't service this camera anymore..
I guess they best way is to remove the battry when not in use or using a stronger power battery called SR44, much expansive I guess.
Any idea where to get these kind of batteries?
Hi all,
I would like to get an OM-X from ebay. Which one is best to get first? I am thinking of OM-1 since it is the first model. What do you guys think? Any opinions?
Thanks.
See http://photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=008cNx&tag= for a discussion about the OM 4 battery problem including advice on the best battery to use.
Get the OM-1N which is the later version of OM-1. It is a wonderful mechanical camera with its well known quite shutter.
Personally for me my second choice is the OM-2000, although it is made by Cosina it also operates mechanically. Using 2pcs LR44 to operate the metering and flash syn at /125
thanks!:sweatsm:
but sad to say that's the end of our camera if something broke down... nobody will service it anymore due to lack of parts. nowadays DSLR are common that i think none of those stores are selling these anymore.
indeed, we are the dying breed..
I think it depends on the model. The circuitry for the OM-4 and is no longer available so if the chip circuitry fails, it would be difficult to get it repaired. The OM-1 (and OM-1n) use discrete components e.g. resistors, capacitors etc. so as I understand it, repairs are still in principle possible...and the camera can even be updated: you can get it modified (look on e-bay) to take LR44 batteries instead of the almost obsolete 625 batteries. That's why I keep my OM-1n. If my OM-4 eventually fails and cannot be repaired, I will simply dust off my OM-1n and continue with my photography! Here in the UK there does not seem to be any difficulty in getting OM cameras repaired (aside from the obsolete OM 4 circuitry problem mentioned above). There still seem to be enough repairers with the necessary expertise. Again, look on e-bay.

Cheers Mike

Although the OM1 is mechanical, its cloth shutter is suceptible to wear & tear. It would also become deformed when not in use for long periods, hence advisable to use it once in a while.
Btw Camera Hospital at Sunshine Plaza a good place to service OMs in Singapore.
oh really? you been there for servicing? how much roughly does it cost? just in case my OM4 breaks down.. heh heh..
Yup but my experience is only with OM1s.
Typically is costs $180 for CLA, including adjustment of shutter & shutter speeds.
Suppose it costs around $200 to replace the whole shutter.
I suppose it is cheaper to get a used unit from ebay - but you get to keep something with sentimental value working and some peace of mind that you're paying for something that works.
