Having the same 'problem' with my ep3/panny 20mm combo
Either stick to the newer Oly lenses or get a Panasonic body. I'm thinking if it's not a bad idea for me to keep the E-P3 but get a GX1 with the panny pancake zoom? hmmmfff...
Actually I just came across THIS review where the reviewer says the E-P3 has the fastest AF he's used on ANY camera including CAnon 5D, 1V, Nikon D300 D700/D3, Phaseone 645, etc! And he uses it with a Panasonic 20mm f/1.7! Now I'm wondering if it's not just my particular EP3 that's the problem?
it's the lens, whether mount on newest or older pen.
Fast AF with MSC lens (newer lens)
Used to own an EP3 with the 25mm F1.4..
In term of af speed it was fast enough to capture my 3yo daughter on a swing..
Just as fast as the kit IMO..
So have to go with the 25mm pana leica?[/
do you think if a user of 20mm f1.7 can find significant improvement upgrading to the 25mm f1.4?
25/1.4 vs 20/1.7. 25 focuses faster as it's newer motor even on Pen, 20mm can be a little slower than kit lens/newer olympus msc (movie still compatible) lenses just to give a feel. May experience some noise for both pany lens on a Pen body. 25 is supposedly sharper than 20 although I find 20 very sharp i won't really split hair over sharpness performance. 25 though will give a blurrer background than 20 coz of larger aperture and focal length. But 20 is a pancake. Whether to have which, can't give an answer, I suppose only one will know their needs? Perhaps price will be biggest deciding factor?

Might as well pay a little bit more and get the 25/0.95. *evil grin*
Wah.. you mean the kit lens is as fast as the 20/1.7 ? In that case, have to get something that is significantly faster to feel the speed?
Erm No, "little slower" can be felt but not significant still <1sec. It does hunt a fair bit at low light which can be improved with AF illuminator (latest EPM1/EPL3/EP3 feature only), hunting might also be Oly body related though, don't have a panasonic body to verify.
