Different sensor, same algorithym... but what's with the obsession with noise? There is Noise sNinja you know?

People think of digital cameras as digital devices, they should be perfect...rather than being a device that converts analog to digital.

There is always Canon. ;)

I guess the days of film grain are long past, with the perfect digital sensors of today.

kai: i think you should wait for the e520. :)

not necessarily because you will want that one, but the prices of the current cameras will fall and also it buys you more time to decide.

Somehow I'll put Oly DSLRs aside first. And I have a limited budget

Anyone who has similar range dslr like the nikon d80/40x or canon 400d/40d and decided to switch to Olympus E510 due to its superior performance?

Care to share: strengths/weaknesses of the above?
Thanks!

But if you are looking at off camera jpg, even the Canon 1DsMkIII and Nikon D3 cannot compare to the Olympus. Try it and see the results for yourself... but for the other bells and whistles that the other two professional camera offers, then of course, the E-510 pale in comparison...

what do you mean by cannot compare? cannot compare in terms off what?

In terms of out of cam JPEG, with no post processing done on computer.

I'm not sure if it holds true for E-510, since DR might be a problem. ;p

Correct, but then again, the colours are more accurate. I seriously urge you guys to borrow cameras from different brands and try them out yourself.

Note : Don't start drakon09 on this... he will tell you tales of "blow up dolls" and "toxic greens"... ha ha ha... shhh... he is not here, because we are meeting soon to become part time football hooligans! :bsmilie:

Haha!

I would agree on the colours. I tried a 400D before. Dislike the colours very much, especially the reds! It wasn't as pleasing as my Olympus cameras. ;p

Even after PP, I believe we might still be able to tell which picture is taken by an Oly, unless heavily PPed.

Your Going to laugh, I got the 510 from QVC, I even got it on 4 easy payments, but I shopped around, it was the best price and best warrenty coverage.

I just check the site they now have the 510 two lens set for $719 no bag or card but still a great price, I landed mine during a christmas special.

At the same time, Sam's club had the two lens kit for US$549, no EZPay though, but you could buy an extended warranty.

Olympus seemed to have very good colour capturing and gradients.

My prosumer has WB problems tho.

to be honest. tried the olympus against the sony during the IT fair... The sony one's looks great and so much better than olympus..for people who are use to full frame...those 3/4 camera is not a good investment compare to a 5D. In terms of pic quality and value.

If u are judging from the camera LCD screen, then you have missed the comparison.

your correct, other camera brands out of the cam jpgs are more vibrant than canons...

coz canons images are more neutral and less saturated, more to the real world.

check this issue about canons out of the cam jpgs. you'll see why you like oly's out of the cam jpgs.
