Where are you located? Check the after sales service. If your decision is the D40, then make sure you have easy excess to their service center for sensor cleaning. Heard that the visits there can be as frequent as weekly.

Having said that, Oly in Malaysia have only 1 center, Mount Kiara. If you find that an inconvenience, then you better consider your selection. You may not need as frequent service with an Olympus.

Lucky you!

Whatever camera you get, don't forget to buy a dry cabinet once arrived to Singapore. I hear that is just as important as the camera itself.

Good luck with your re-location!

If you want to go Nikon,at least D50.E500 over D40 if you don't want incompatibility issue with lens...
You mean D40, D50, D70, D80, D100, D200 lenses are not compatibel/interchangable? Man, I am glad I had no money for the D200 a year ago... and by mistake seen the Oly E-500 ad just the day before I was about to order the D70. Not possible to upgrade without changing every piece of hardware? What kind of system is that? Do they tell that to all customers, especially newbies?

At least, if one gets an Olympus E-system camera ANY E-system body fits ANY E-system lens or flash. Even if it says designed for E-1 or called pro-range. If you can pay for it just use it on ANY body. And once the E-510 or the E-X is available, just get a new body and sell or keep the old one. No need to get everything new. I suddenly realize this is the biggest major advantage of 4/3 cameras. Not the SSWF or anything else I made myself believe was the most important, but the compatibility downwards or upwards, that is really important if you have a system camera. Else it can not be called a system IMO.

No no.D40 only compatible with AFS Lens(Lens with motor),not the older lens(Better and cheaper).D50~D80 can used most of the Nikkor after AI while D200/D2 can meter with Pre AI lens.

:o ===>:confused:

I think i stick to Zuiko OM and Zuiko Digital (DZ) lenses... ;)

I think its the same with some Canon cam *just heard this* eos lenses are not compatible with EF lenses...can someone verify this, dont want to get flame by the Canon fans hehehehe

Canon EF lenses can be used for the Canon film cameras or SLR bodies. Canon EFS lenses can only be used by the DSLR bodies. However, the DSLR bodies can also use EF lenses. The SLR bodies cannot mount the EFS lenses.

That's the thing about Olympus. All E-system lenses are digital lenses, just like the EFS lenses. So with all the new Oly DSLR bodies, no problems.

Please correct me if I'm wrong as I got this information from my friends using Canon.

I am considering buting an Olympus E500 dual lens kit at $800
...or a D40 basic kit at $850.

love D40..because alot of positive comment but only comes with 55mm lens.
E500 is alot cheaper. lens covered till 150mm...but seems to have problem with noise and low light auto focus.

pls help!

Hi yvelau, just wana ask where you got the price quoe of $800 for the dual lens kit from? Hope you can help. Thanks :)

I can not correct you about the Canon camera and lenses usable on Canon dSLR, but I think when it comes to Oly some corrections (or clarifications) are needed. All E-system (actually 4/3 system) lenses can be used on ALL E-system bodies. All manual focus OM lenses can also be used with ALL Olympus dSLR E-system bodies. Old AND new. All other lenses made for film and manual focus SLR cameras can also be used with ALL Olympus dSLR camera bodies, except for the Canon lenses. Of course, each brand needs its own adapter and those lnses only work in manual focus, camera in A mode, setting aperture manually on the lens. So ppl on tight budget can get a good E-system body and use high quality low budget lenses made for film cameras.

I'm using my Nikkor lenses on Olympus E-System bodies without any hesitation.
Using Nikkor to 4/3 adapter is one secret weapon why E-500 is much valuable than D40 even D80 !
Since exposure metering still works on E-500 rather than Nikon !

hi yvelau,
you mentioned oly e500 with dual lens kit quoted at S$800, can i know where to get??

It is the same with buying a car. Look at the different features and decide what you prefer.

If I have the money, the E500 it is or its it the E510 now?

;)

When you touch the new E-510 and hold it in your hands, everything becomes very clear... VERY...

have been toying with the idea of getting a 2nd hand e500 and 50 macro prime as my 2nd cam...just thinking:)
