Hi,

Anyone here with the E-300 using the HLD3 power battery grip holder? Care to commend?

I have very big hands. So with the grip, my last little finger called pinkie has a place to rest. :P It also allows for cable release, if you want to buy and vertical shooting is easier to grip the camera and shutter.

With two batteries in the HLD3, the camera is going on FOREVER. I think I have clocked about 900 pictures or so over the last 2 weeks... , and the battery still no indication of "low batt".

Hi peekarwe,

hand with short fingers. :bsmilie: The grib is a little too big for me.

KKtan,
Do you mean the battery holder on its own? It does not add bulk actually- my only complaint is that it adds to the weight. The holder fits to the bottom of the e-300 so it adds to the length. One cannot use the cable release without it the holder - something that I am trying hard to understand;(

Very likely the designer think that this feature is less important to this consumer level products. So, they moved this less frequently used feature to the holder.

Hi Serene,

I'm refering to the finger grib. I had tried ykkok's HLD3 unit attach to the E300, it's a little wide (long) for my fingers to hold tightly, not too comfy holding it. :(

The weight of the HLD3 is o.k. for me. As for why the release cable can only be use with the HLD3, my guess is towards the $$$ side. :sticktong

For all that, we will have to pay $120 for the cable release and another $100 for the battery holder, just to use the bulb. They might as well remove the bulb function.;( It is so misleading

Hi Serene,

I think that is the whole ideal.....:(

Well, you still can shoot vertically (portrait) lah. Much easier with the HLD3 when you shoot
alot of portriat position. ;) Not forgetting a lot more battery power. ;p

Most welcomed. I suspect that in the landscape mode, the grip is not going to make much of a difference because it doesn't make the original grip on the camera bigger. But if you do portrait shooting using the grip, it is a little bit bigger.

Again, for me, the battery holder just lets me rest my little finger which would otherwise be dangling (???) below the camera. :D

CP quoted me $145 for the Cable release. Upset. Anyway, I didn't buy from them. The $120 price I think can get from MS right? I am wondering if there are any possible 3rd party ones. I don't even like the fact that it's electronic. Expensive... If I remember correctly, my cable release (mechanical) for the old EOS (non digital) was like $15. :P

Hi Peekarwe
I found out that there is no substitute as the set-up is proprietory;( . Yes, it is expensive but it is supposed to be wired to the circuitry of the DSLR.

Do shop around for prices as Olympus does not practice control prices.

no lar... u can use bulb w/o the cable release...
u have to change to manual mode, then turn the thumbwheel to change shutter speed all the way to 30s, after that it goes to bulb mode...
except that w/o cable release u have to keep ur finger on the shutter....

Hi hammer_400,

This mode of triggering the shutter very shaky leh. Press down, shake...release...shake again. :(

yar... but still can use bulb mode wat... hehe...
but when shoot like fireworks with long exposure the little bit of shake may not be noticeable, cos exposed without shake maybe 5 sec, shake about 0,1? sec, so the movement/blur may actually end up being insignificant....

Hi Hammer
Bulb mode means that you hold down the shutter as long as you want and this can only be done via a cable release (conventional method). For anything more than 15 secs, I think the risk of a shake is quite high and more than 30 secs, it will be a problem. The problem with the e-300 is that the release can only be attached via the holder and not directly onto the camera (like the E-1). We may require longer exposure for fireworks, depending on what effects we want. Hope this helps.

hi, my point being that bulb mode can be used on the e-300 without the cable release... u just have to set the camera to bulb mode which is done by going into "M" mode and changing the shutter speed untill it changes to bulb. while this may is arguably not the best method, if used properly on a tripod you can still obtain the desired results....

Yes and No, depending on the subject you are shooting.

For firework only, yes and the shake will not be that noticeable.

No, if there are lighted background structures or buildings below the firework, the shake or blur might be more obvious with all the movement on the camera. :(
