Old lenses

I was given some old lenses that are still in great condition. They are from Canon and Nikon. Does anyone have any idea will the latest DSLR from Canon or Nikon accept these lenses and are there any adaptors that will allow the use of both lenses on either Canon or Nikon? What about Sony NEX3 etc, will they be able to accept these lenses? Thanks in anticipation of an answer.

For Nikon, should be able to mount. Whether got metering, depends on body. Canon not so sure if got adapter, but on it's own, confirm cannot mount since it's a different mount.

it would help if you could list down their specs (focal range, aperture, lens type/model). photos would be better, otherwise, general specs will do. there are adapters in the mass sales for such old lenses.

perhaps you want to check them out. oh yes, there are still photographers who combine dslr with such lenses:)

As a 'general' rule of thumb, and with easy-to-use and user-reversible adapters (don't need to do 'frankenstein' mount changes), Nikon DSLRs can only accept Nikon lenses and very few others, whereas Canon DSLRs can accept almost all the SLR brand lenses. This is because of the flange distance.

However, as in any 'rule' there are exceptions.

All the best in your search for data on older, manual or AF lenses.

Hi,
you need to define what old lenses you got. Old is different in everyone's minds. Was helping a friend earlier with "old" lenses but they were AF Nikkors that he considers old when they were about 10 yrs old only. So you have to be precise when you ask questions here.

Go to ebay and there are several types of adaptors for different cameras there. But some cameras are easier to find adaptors than the others.

So far I bought a Canon FD to EF, Nikon manual to Canon EF and Olympus OM to Canon EF adaptors. All works fine with manual focusing and exposure.

Ok...I shall post the pictures of the lens and perhaps there is a possibility I can use it with a digital camera. Thanks!

I know Canon can mount most lenses of other brands with an adaptor. For example, I have my Zeiss 50mm f/1.4 Plannar T* mounted on my 450D and 7D without issues with the help of a simple adaptor ;).

Apart from the NEX, what DSLR / SLR body are you using now?
