22 days is too little.. you wouldn't enjoy enough of the sights... if u r to take a ur camera with u on such journey.. pls limit to 6 countries at most to truly enjoy the sights..

Yup. That's my intention. A time lapse of main landmarks in europe. From one to another. No intention to stop for shopping ..

Hugh effort for that.
Like you said, with the hectic schedule, the final video is your reward.

Will look forward to your work when you are back.

As there is a says, 'no pain, no gain.'

Now only hopes that I could use tripod over there. Fingers crossed.

Planned quite a lot, except hotels. Going to get the EuroPass for 21days as some countries which I going, not included. It's first class ticket only but the price still within my budget. Almost daily on rail but the timing still ok for me. Need to start saving as early as I could. Not an cheap trip but a experience rewarding type. :D

I think 22 days for all that is unrealistic and quite pointless. You will probably do 2-3 cities in each country. Most of these countries are connected by rail which is probably your best mode of transport. I agree with TWmilktea that your best bet is 3 countries of varying landscapes. I would suggest Austria, Swiss and Italy. But these can get expensive during peak season. Another consideration is whether you are fit enough to walk non-stop. At some point, your legs will be too tired. Also, you need to co-ordinate your accommodation for all 10 countries in advanced which is not easy. And if you meet a friendly Asian or ang mo girl, there goes all your plan.

I rather find a nice place for taking photos than such encounter. My "wife", "Mistress" and "Children" are with me, more than enough for me to handle. (Cameras, HandyCam and Tripod, haha!)

I going for a solo travel next year, around aug/sep. I know it's too early to ask but I need to get ready for it. My current itinerary is as follow :

1)Scotland
2)England
3)Belgium
4)Netherlands
5)Germany
6)Austria
7)Italy
8)Portugal (maybe)
9)Spain
10)France
11)Switzerland

Any other recommended countries/landmarks which I should go for time lapse? My route is base on the google maps, which is roughly how I should travel to get to most of the places. Any do and don't? :embrass:

Hi ;

Just sharing my experience
Went to Europe 4 times

1st time , 13 days went Germany , Austria , Czech and back again to Germany . Very "shack" at the end of day 13 , cant wait to come home as I spend a fair amount of time on the trains .
That and I do not have much memory of each place as its touch and go go go
But was young and 1st time in Europe , even taking a 4 hour train ride is interesting

2nd time older wiser and a bit richer , spend 9 days in UK between London ,Manchester and Scotland den fly back from Scotland to London . Enjoyable but still a fair bit of "Amazing Race"

3rd time , spend 10 days in Greece only , went 3 locations . Really enjoyable

4th time , spend 11 days in UK , self drive all the locations very near . Best ! And still have memories of places I been to

In Essence , the itinerary you planned is like THE AMAZING RACE on steroids , make that a lot of steroids

The route is "set".

Scotland(2) - Liverpools(1) - London(2) - Belgium(1) - Rotterdam(1) - Berlin(1) - Prague(2) - Fussen(3) - Villach(1) - Venice(2) - Rome(2) - Pisa(1) - Modena(1) - Switzerland(4) - France(2)

The () are the nights I will be there. Only Switzerland, I will be staying longer. At Modena for the experience of driving a Ferrari and/or lambo. Villach as I can't make it to Vienna due to distance and train timing. The rest, is what I wanted and will be quite ok. Too bad not enough time else I will be at Rotterdam for another night. :(

Sounds very rushed and tiring to me. Think I'm gettung old.

Looks like a good run. The last one, France, is a bit vague - I presume you mean Paris. France is a pretty damn big place.

Have a good time, have a safe trip, and don't leave home without plastic and rubber. :-)

TS You will be spending 90 % of your time in trains and local buses.. Only 5% of your time on the 'job'
Check how professional tours plan their trips and the time required... that will give you an idea of time and distances

Don't think I will spend time on train as mostly are 4 hours trip on average. Only from rotterdam to Berlin is 8hrs. At Switzerland, i following excursions, at least got transport to titlis. Yup, it's Paris, checking out around 3 pm at last day. Reach sg at 3pm too, can come home without jams. Ha ha!

Will look 180 degrees, listen to 360 degrees. Heh heh! Will be extra careful.

You may need to take night trains to optimise daylight for shoots. A 4hr train ride will eat up 6 hours of your time (Travel time + getting in/out of the train station) Anyway... Good luck.

That's why I try to book those hotel nearer to station. Only 2 places is far for now. I doubt I can sleep in peace on night train. Scare got rob of equipments also. Anyway, thanks for the input.

I just came back from 3 weeks in scotland/uk. In the midst of shooting timelapse, one of my 5d2 died. Thankfully the other one operated without hiccups for the rest of the trip.

A little food for thought since you are planning to do timelapse for your 22 day Europe trip.

Thanks for the tips. Will be bringing default A850, another FF if Sony announce by then. I also will be bringing my RX100 and a Handycam. Hopes all went smoothly and also, do post your time lapse. :D

Sony already announced and launched 2 FF... A99 and RX1... If I am not with Canon and Olympus I would have jumped at the A99 (I hate the RX1 though, don't ask me why, just personal preferences).

Both which you mentioned, don't really get me to upgrade on the body yet. My A850 still under usage, ha ha! RX1 fixed lens, not my kind. A99 still using 24mp sensor, not worth and for video, I getting a handycam soon. So, now is to play the waiting game for new bodies.

Btw, I will be using A850 on time lapse, new body will be mounted with 135mm, together with rx100 for walk about. New body will be used for time lapse when I need to capture two moments at the same time. Planned quite well for trip, once got time, will plan again the details. Cheers!

Every now and then, I adding ideas to it. Like going to do a time lapse on the sea tides covering up the walkway linking the island, use 2 cameras at the same time for time lapse etc. One year to go, time flies real fast. :D

What is your budget?

Some of these journeys will be quicker to drive / train than fly, but others vice versa. I can help you (I live in UK) but it would be helpful to know the cities you wish to visit. This will make a huge difference to your travel time.

Just with the UK as an example, Scotland is far North, the 'main' tourist areas in the UK (London, Kent, Cornwall etc) are far South.

Your route seems sensible, however Germany is not known for it's photographic nature...there are so many more beautiful places in Europe to spend your time. I would suggest flying from Netherlands to Czech Republic, then into Austria and continuing your plan.

Fly from Italy to Portugal (Faro Airport, in the South) then work your way up the Southern Coast of Spain. The Algarve part of (Southern) Portugal is absolutely beautiful.

1)Scotland
2)England
3)Belgium
4)Netherlands
5)Germany
6)Austria
7)Italy
8)Portugal (maybe)
9)Spain
10)France
11)Switzerland

I don't know how much you have travelled, so apologies if you already know this, but this is definitely not a public transport trip. You simply to not have enough time. Singaporean transport is infinitely different to European.

If you are city hopping it will be mainly flights with the occasional train. For speed I would do:

1)Scotland (Public transport ok if you stay purely in Edinburgh)
Train to London
2)England (Public transport ok if you stay only in London / Kent area)
Eurostar (High speed train) to Belgium
3)Belgium
Train to Amsterdam
4)Netherlands (Amsterdam public transport OK)
5)Germany (Berlin, public transport OK)
6)Austria (Depends where)
7)Italy (Public Transport for Rome)
Fly to Faro (Portugal)
8)Portugal (Car hire essential!)
9)Spain (Huge country, but if you confine yourself to Barcelone, public transport)
Fly to Paris
10)France (Public transport if in Paris)
Train to Switzerland
11)Switzerland

The above is fine for Capital cities. But if you want to explore, without car hire you will struggle.
