Great catch! When u mentioned 70-200mm + 500D, is the working distance longer than your 100mm?

For Canon close up lenses, the 500 represents the focusing distance which in this case is 500mm or 50cm. :)

The working distance is definately longer than the 100 macro which has a min working distance of ard 30cm.

Param bro... teebs demystify for you.. couldn't have done it better. But its also thru that from Bluesteel that any addition of glass inbetween the cam and subject is IQ compromised. CHeerios... Thanks teebs

Yes, when you add any close up filters in front of your lens, IQ is compromised but for macro photography, it is not that critical because you will only use the centre of the photo. All other parts of the photo are usually cropped away.

Anyway, there are many types of macro filters in the market. Single element ones are the cheapest and suffer the most distortion and loss in IQ. Double & triple element filters like the Canon 500D or 250D and Raynox do not suffer that great a loss in image quality.

maybe you miss my earlier post.
Guilty as charged! Thousand apologies... lets go shoot togather.. but before that allow me t treat a glass of ice-coffee...

I love extension tube only that its seems to loose some light and appear darker if one do not change the settings.

1.4TC.. haa.. it does affect the image quality... but I was playing with it and it gives me an enlargement and the working distant remains wide... should use with care as compromised is involved.

I cannot share other 70-200 cos the only one i have is the F2.8 without IS. Not tht I am specifically recommending this... its just that alot of times i like to quickly pann and manual foucusing works for me fine. 2.8 do help with some pics when i want to get it really soft and smooth... (not specific to macro)

Hope i had not confused anyone... :)

well i am in dilemma of choosing 3 of the best lens :

1) 70-200 F4 IS
2) 70-200 F2.8 Non IS
3) Tamron 180mm

Actually i am bending more towards the tele. as i find it useful to get the reach esp those sensitive creatures.

PM me ur MSN if u do have one
