hi guys, planning to travel and thinking of carrying along a tripod with me. is there any that you would recommend that would go well with this camera? shooting with voigtlander 15mm, 35mm and 50mm so i doubt my setup would be really heavy.

What's your budget? I believe this is your backup camera? Any lightweight carbon tripod should more than suffice for this small camera. You might want to choose 1 with a hook at the bottom to add some did weight and lower the cg

I'm trying to get my A7 displays to work like a DSLR.

In the sense that..

1. The LCD Display has option to be OFF by default and ON only when user presses "MENU" or "PLAYBACK" or "some LiveView Button"
2. The EVF works works base on either always ON or depending on proximity sensor. I'm hoping the sensor would be more an eye detection sensor rather than a general proximity sensor.

What I'm trying to achieve is both EVF and LCD works and function just like a DSLR combination. Of course a DSLR would typically be an OVF so it wouldn't need to have the adjustments I mentioned above.

Anyone else have this same thoughts or know if such settings can be done? I've gone through the menu settings and I can't find anything to be able to set this way.

i use Sirui T-025 Carbon Fibre
it's very good yet lightweight for traveling.. suitable for your setup..

I do find the A7 proximity sensor triggers too closely. I would prefer if it's user definable.

Not sure bout the A7 but previously on the Nex 7, the OFV consumes more battery than the lcd screen, so I won't want it on all the time.

U can customize one of the buttons to manually on/off the LCD screen.

Am using sirui t0025.. Tk foto has got good deal on this.. Carbon for small tripod not worth the diff.. Cos weight savings only like less then 100g or so maybe.. If I'm going for larger tripods, then carbon makes sense.. Hth

Yes. I tried but it doesn't actually OFF the monitor per se. There is still some information displayed at the bottom line of the monitor. Just everything else is black.

I'm using Manfrotto now. The 055 CX models are still pretty heavy (for me).

Thinking of getting a Gitzo travel series

Unfortunately, no, u can't set it up like that. You can do that on the Fujis or the OMDs, but sadly, with the A7/r, you either use the viewfinder or the LCD, and have them auto-switch via the eye sensor..

I'm also using the Manfrotto 055CX for everything that calls for a tripod, locally or overseas…. not the lightest but super stable. Love it
