I wonder if it makes any sense to buy the A7 and use with the 16 f2.8 E mount lens which will give a cropped output. Would there be any benefit compared to using a Nex 5T? And what FOV would I be getting if I use the 16 2.8 on the A7?

No real advantage except for DR and high ISO. You would get 24mm equiv

Strangely, after trying the A7 and A7R, I actually am seriously considering the RX1R although I had previously excluded it due to the cost of it....

Yeah, I did consider that too. A choice between ultimate IQ or versatility use one body for all the lenses I have. Gave in to A7's poison after trying it out at the event. :bsmilie:

Looks like the A7r really isn't the way to go for RF lenses with focal lengths less than 35mm.

Any idea if the A7 will fare any better with wider lens?

I have pre-ordered A7R and currently have CV35/1.2II, CV50/1.1, 35/2 Summicron, 50/2 Summicron and 90/2 Summicron so I'm alright with the A7R so long as I stop down the CV35/1.2 to f2 and above. But I would really like to add a VM15/4.5 in the near future. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

from my limited testing at TCC, seems that the A7 suffers less purple edges with the 15 4.5 vs the A7R. your lenses shld work well with the A7R, even the 35 1.2ii worked well i feel.

"suffers less" ! You mean the magenta cast can be seen in the A7 as well?

Thanks for the note on the AF speed of the 28-70. I will drop the kit set and maybe looking at the A7R instead. Did you find significant difference between the CDAF of the A7R and the CDAF+PDAF of the A7 in terms of operation and settings adjustments when using with the 35/2.8?

Did anyone test SLR UWA (>21mm) on A7R and does it show the same magenta cast as the RF lenses?

Yes. Can b seen on A7 but minimal as compared to A7R.

Thanks for responding. So there will be better DR and higher ISO on the RX1R or the A7?

Actually I was looking at dpreview comparison widget and they differences are
1. BionX processor
2. Phase detect on A7
3. No flash on A7

If i were to get the A7 with 35 mm, I would be in the ballpark with the RX1R. hmmm....

below is the image from CV15 at F4.5 posted yesterday for your reference. some of the light falloff is due to spot lights on the model and backdrop not hitting the walls and corner area

if you are looking at the RX1R, suggest you look at the image quality comparison of the A7R, D800, 5D3 and RX1R. IQ and ISO performance is great for a compact, but to my eyes falls slightly behind the A7R, 5D3 and D800 especially from iso 1600 onwards to my eye.

Just placed my A7 pre-order at Sony Wisma. Was at Cathay prior and they refused to confirm stock arrival date or when I could get mine. In addition, they said I had to put a deposit. Makes me wonder if they had a really long waiting list or they have not gotten allocation from Sony and was trying to lock in more deposits. They just gave a vague 'After 27th Nov. I'll call you when your unit arrives.'

Wow wow wow...Can really see the difference......
7R is impressive....sigh...But Im thinking of A7 for the following reasons, and dpreview has no A7 shots to compare with.

1. Electronic first curtain availability - allows me to shoot faster. Instead of two clacks, I can shoot with one clack on the A7. Peng san.....

ha... i called 3 places. mscolor, slr rev, went to CP and sony marina sq. none of them dared to confirm with me 27th definitely can get my hands on the camera, only that they will call once camera arrives.

I chose CP since they don't need 100% deposit compared to sony and freebies are the same everywhere, prices same everywhere. Hopefully CP gets more stocks since they are slightly "larger scale" compared to some of the other shops

yup me too... i chose the A7 also because of the electronic first curtain which makes the A7 less loud compared to a7r...

hoping the noise characteristics of the A7 will be on par with the 5D3

Anyone noticed that the A7/7R seems to suffer some motion blur? Dunno if that has anything to do with the shutter?
