Official Sony A7 or A7r discussion thread (Season II)

i wonder if it improves the overall startup time or startup time of the apps?
Don't you that "Smart Remote Control" App so I cannot comment but the start-up time of my A7 seem significant faster if I remember correctly the speed of the V.1.02. Now it almost instantly on even after turn-off for more than 30 minutes! The boot-up time after remove battery also seem to be faster.

Need to use further to see if the battery life will be affect or not!

Not sure if this is the right thread to post cos its about the A7s. Anyone experience banding issues with your A7s? I did a little research online, but there was not much info. I read that it might be a issue when using silent mode. I know banding occurs when light electrical frequencies interfere with the camera sensors.

I ruled that out (light frequencies) cos I was shooting out doors, so very unlikely. I wanna know if it is inherent and if i should just go to Sony, or if an exchange is good enough.

Yes. Faced the banding issues. Regardless of indoor or outdoor.

Another experienced user friend of mine agrees w me on this issue. We think it's because of the bit depth. This camera's bit depth is not as good as the FF cameras.

I sent in my A7r during last Friday, to fix the light leak issue and also inquire if it is possible for Sony to change the hybrid mount to the A7s' metal mount.

Here is an update to share.

-Sony's stand is a firm NO
-I asked if it is due to Sony's unwillingness to change it or it is technically impossible, technician said that the parts for A7r and A7s are not the same.
-Technician said that he can provide me with the part number then I can order the parts and change the lens mount myself
-I blur, because he said that the parts are not the same for both models but I can order the parts and change it myself??? :dunno:
-Technician stressed that, any modification to the lens mount, will void the camera's warranty(Fotodiox Tough E-Mount users please take note)
-I asked the technician why Sony cannot change it for me since the parts can be ordered?
-Technician said that if I change the lens mount myself, and I quote him "it will be my problem".
-The A7s metal mount will cost between $40 to $50
-I questioned the technician again and he asked me to disregard his comments on ordering the A7s lens mount :dunno:
I just read through this post about Fotodiox Tough mount and look at the so call A7s OEM mount part.

http://www.photoclubalpha.com/2014/10/27/the-fotodiox-tough-e-mount/

From what I seen, I have a little concern regarding to the design of the original 2 pcs mount and the 1 pc new mount (both this one and the Photodiox tough mount). From my point of view, since both original and this 1 pc all press against the 4 posts of the 4 screws to generate the force, the plastic rim plays almost no role in securing the lens. However, that plastic rim might play the role of a gasket to give the FE full frame mount system the Weather Resistant capability. The original front piece of the original lens mount, which has a so call lathe circles, also have the role as a labyrinth seal to minimize water to get into the body. Remove both the soft plastic gasket and making the front surface of the mount totally flat will generate the risk of reducing the weather resistant capability of the E mount full frame system.

I don't know the detail about the A7s lens mount design therefore I don't know if Sony add any extra seal ring below the front piece of the lens mount or not.

In srgb, it's processing 8bit per channel. Banding cannot be avoided in some scenes.

Anyone know where can I get Commlite EF-NEX adapter in Singapore? Try to find but only available on eBay.

I noticed the EVF and live view drops in frame rate using the default PAL mode. In NTSC mode, everything seems more smooth and fluid. But then I'll keep receiving the irritating NTSC message.

Anyone notice the frame rate drop also?

yeah. I have also changed my settings to AdobeRGB. Colors are richer too.

Adobe RGB has wide color space. However most display may not be able to support. Besides your display device need to be properly calibrated to view the correct color reproduction.

Same here, ntsc smoother and also I'm filming with 24p which is only avail in ntsc mode. Just have to live with the irritating pop up msg :) btw, nice to see you here, I'm the one who sold u the 6d last year :)

Just received the MEIKE vertical grip from www.meikestore.com at US$79.56 without shipping

It is made of plastic, so its pretty light and comes with a wireless remote which allows includes controls for delay, long exposure and interval shots.

I never own the Sony VG-C1EM‎ so I cant compare the two. For me, I do feel at SGD$100 for a vertical grip with a remote, its pretty worth it.
