Official Sony A7 or A7r discussion thread (Season II)

Notice it takes bloody long to start up the first time after you put a fresh battery in. Could it be the case?

Ps: saw the video liao and yeah, thats what I have as well.

Oh.. When remove & insert battery than turn on is slow start up.

But if off & on with battery not removed is fast start up. Solution is dont remove battery everytime u off the camera. Just leave battery inside.

I kid you not... it takes freaking 11 seconds...

Maybe I should take a vid and show you guys...

It is ridiculously slow...

agree that cold starts when battery is taken out and replaced is still as slow as before.

but the firmware update only states improvements in start up when you swich on the camera just after switching off. In the past it was almost as slow as a cold start. now it is about 3 seconds like a normal start, which is an improvement good for my shooting style as i tend to switch off the camera when nothing interesting is in view.

Ah..i will try it with a new battery tonight :)
I never remove the battery from the camera actually..it stays inside unless i have to charge it..
Anyways, if it is slow with a new battery, that's ok i guess..you don't change batteries that often.
They must have tweaked it such that even with the camera off..it's not really "OFF"?
At least now i can turn it of when not in use and not worry it takes so long to turn it back i'll miss the shot..before the update..i always have to keep the camera On...waste battery...

Hi guys,I'll be going HK next week and would like to ask regarding buying a Sony A7 there. 1. Does the Tourist Warranty covers the same as buying locally in Singapore? 2. Any recommended shops to buy? 3. Any stuffs to check out for? Thanks in Advance!

1. Yes. Hk local warranty set is able to be exchanged to tourist limited warranty at the sony style in hk.

2. Try Mongkok, SIM city (星际). There're many shops inside selling better price that Broadway, fortress Etc. Ask around the prices in the building. Good thing about buying in Mongkok is that, u can straight away walk to the sony style for your warranty after u purchased. There's one sony style at the junction near to Mongkok area.

3. Most of them wouldn't cheat u, u just need to be specific: tell them u wan hk local warranty set because u wanna Change to tourist limited warranty. The other type is greyset (水货), without warranty. Credit card is more exp than cash. If u wan 2nd hand, sim city also have. Memory card and battery fetch a great deal in hk. (That's about "others stuff" that I can think of for now)

Too bad it does not has a function to set minimum shutter speed when in aperture mode in this update :(

After today, i really wish Sony had released a better AF FF mirrorless camera... maybe this rumoured A9 should be released faster than Sept :) As much as I love my A7r and forgive it's misfortunes, for the first time i was truely frustrated using it today. I was shooting a fire performance a iLight today with the a7r and fe55..it was dark and the performers moved alot..and even at f1.8 and ISO2500, the camera 80% of the time, fails to focus at all and becuase it's at f1.8, by the time it does, the person moved a little..OOF again..It simply didn't work most of the time. I know it's bad in low light but i never expected it to be THIS bad. The only other time i got this frustrated was with the EOS M in low light as well..the A7R is no different.

I am learning all these limitation with a narrow dof with large apertures. Combined with a less than optimal AF, it just really is bad at shooting babies and anything that won't stay still for you.

The learning curve for those coming from faster systems will either be a frustrating or rewarding one. For me its a little bit of both. Im sure those who went straight to the rx1/r to the a7/r as their only system might have felt it.

Hehe, well, i came from the 5D3..so...the "shock" was definitely big for me..BUT having said that..i've learnt to accept it and to get a 2nd camera for the purpose of fast moving action and for taking babies that move hehe..the a7r won't be used for any moving objects hehe..

I learn to accept the shortcoming and learn to take my shot at a slower pace often planning the shots. Then again, with my lousy skills, always a matter of hit and miss. LOL... :bsmilie:

Sometimes bo pian...asking a baby or a poodle to sit still and not move while my camera locks AF can be challenging haha..usually they don't listen :)

Just got my A7R from Sin City shop@DCfever. Forgot to take my money but they did return me when i went back. Sarpork!

Anyway got a couple of questions:
1. Is there international warranty for Zeiss FE55F1.8?
2. Do you guys dismantle your package when coming back to Singapore?

My 2 cents worth knowledge...

1. Sony lenses no international warranty, it only apply for camera body.
2. I never did so, never kena stop before. Should be ok if u place it inside your checked in luggage. But dunno if security tighter due to MH370 case... Good luck bro

Is the price there better than SG? Did research for A6000 I intended to buy.... seem like HK prices worse than SG.
