Official Sony A7 or A7r discussion thread (Season II)

All iLC cameras are potentially affected cuz of Qc on tolerances on lens mount. 5dmk3, yada yada and other makes all got similar leak "problems". Just seem that sony's problems are always blown outta proportion lol. Haters always gotta hate i suppose. At least sony is aware of the "problem" so im sure affected users might get a fix. Previously 5n's clicky problem gt fixed relatively quickly too.

Sony just admitted it is an issue. Just wonder what are they going to do about it. Replace the faulty parts?

for those encountering this issue and pending resolution from Sony, perhaps a wide rubber band can be used to cover the lens mount area, or maybe a lens band used for preventing lens creep would do just as well.

yeah tested my self also there's some light leaks... I've covered the front of the lens with my leather skin camera cover and shoot at ISO 12500 and 25000 yes can see some leakage but I think this will cause an issue when you shooting at bright day light and shooting with long exposure??? what I did was make sure the morning sun rays from my window will hit the cam and the contact between lens and lens mount and here's what I got

@ ISO 12800

At ISO25600

[iso 25600, 20-30s exposure, F22 to avoid stray light sources from lens cap, dark room preferably and try shining a torch around the lens mount] lens should be mounted with lens cap on.

Am glad mine aint got no leaks . If you're affected and feel disturbed by it can just go daiso get some
Of those ring type hairband and put over ur lens mount gap =)

Bro have u tested with your native lens? Maybe its the adapter =) some users changed adapters or mounted native lenses and eliminated the issue. You could perhaps try mounting one of ur e mount lenses?

ic. mine doesn't look like its facing any issue as well. i am on F22 for the above shot as well.

Either install a o ring rubber gasket or replace the entire mount. Both are possible.

[Dark room ,ISO 25600, F22, 30 second exposure] with flashlight (lens mounted + lens cap on)

[Dark room ,ISO 25600, F22, 30 second exposure] w/o flashlight (lens mounted + lens cap on)

Seems fine to me, no sharp source of light piercing through like those on dpreview.
Did it inside a really dark room with the kit zoom. Only light source other than the Flash light would be the camera's on board lcd screen.
Both looked the same with or without the strong led light source. at any iso lower than 25600 its just completely pitch dark.

Yeah was using laea4 it should not leak also but yeah I have two contacts and two possible light leak source. But mine I didn't just use simple torch light mine was sun rays but so far it have not seen any issue of light leaks from any of my photos even those long exposure ones.

I guess only extreme condition who would shoot ISO 25600 at 30sec and f22 this setting is just crazy. To me no point in irking for such issues that has almost no real life implication (that's me anyways).

Hehe cheers

Bro real test is the bring mid day sun :-) torch light unless you using those huge spot light I
That almost nothing. :-)

Yeah bro but this issue so far only show at these extreme Settings so I guess 99.9% of the time we won't even notice or see the issue :-)

It's a led light near the lens mount, its even better than just sunrays hitting everywhere =) More pin point and better fault isolation =) This talk is getting a little geeky so i'll just leave it as it is haha.

yea i agree. This tests are extremely deliberate tests and no real life implication for me too. Did it just to satisfy my curiosity. Haha if sony does offer a fix , just take it anyway for future proofing =)

cheers

I guess many Bros here are just too obsessed with the imperfections of this otherwise revolutionary camera. Perhaps those with severe light streaks in their test images need to do smth, otherwise, those minor reddish patches at those conditions are nothing to worry about...

Just go out n enjoy ur camera :)

its becoming a trend. finding fault. :bsmilie:

Camera related OCD :) just for that peace of mind.

Sony always getting the worst form of publicity when it comes to faults discovered, haters gotta hate i suppose. Regardless of whatever's on the net, still enjoying the a7r.

I guess it's also nice to know the issue although it may no have a real life implication... look at it this way why airlines still asked to turn off mobile phone and other devices? and recently there was a news of mobile phones and other similar devices has no direct implication to airlines and its navigation instruments...

If Sony recall A7 and A7r and provide fix it's a plus if not its ok also :-) if they give me a free lens or a good discount to their FE lenses that's even better :-)

nevermind them bro

lol. unless the issue is so huge that makes the camera useless...doubt they will give free lens.

anyway, X-T1 also light leak from the microphone jack and HDMI port

Don't own a A7 but honestly who's gonna be really shooting at ISO25600 or jamming an LED into a camera body for long exposures in real life ?

Leave this to those people who spend most of their time reading charts instead of enjoying the cameras :)

It's honorable of Sony to acknowledge the issue but then the issue isn't a real life impactful one. If Sony does anything as compensation, it's a bonus rather than a must have.
