Official Plane Spotting Thread III

was goin thru my HD and to found a picture taken on 18.April.2012 early arrival at WSAP National Air Cargo N949CA

and also this Tri-MG Intra Asia Airlines Boeing 737-301(SF)

N949CA was carrying 5(?) military vehicles on that flight. It was operating on behalf of the Air Mobility Command or AMC. Anyone can confirm what's on N949CA? Humvees?

Seems to have stalled due to a catastrophic shift of cargo according to Wikipedia
I reckon if it was a catastrophic load shift as hypothesised by National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) investigators presently, the Center of Gravity (CG) of N949CA would have drastically been affected in a critical post takeoff / climb phrase, overwhelming the capability of the elevators and Horizontal Stabilizer Trim System (HSTS) to compensate thus pushing N949CA beyond the flight envelope for that particular altitude almost in an instant whereby stall recovery is not possible.

Anyway, when we convert a passenger airliner into a commercial freighter (Passenger To Freighter Conversion (PTF) either a 9G Barrier Net (BN) or a 9G Rigid Cargo Barrier (RCB) with structural attachments directly installed to the surrounding Station (STA) frames is placed approximately somewhere at the L1 door. So in an event the restraint do fail, the ~ 5 Ton Unit Load Device (ULD) doesn't crush the cockpit horrifically with its occupants in it say during a crash landing, emergency descent, turbulence etc. etc.

"Like" your post for a moment or so but had it removed since I felt it probably wasn't appropriate given the circumstance at hand as the rather ambiguous intention to "Like" in this particular instance could be misunderstood since seven souls were lost in the tragic accident. Hoped you wouldn't mind and take offence at it, am grateful that you took the effort and time to dig it up and sharing it with us here. :)

Thank you!

Ok, this is something that I didn't get a chance to spend time on due to circumstances beyond my control, but I've finally edited a set of photos from Exercise Pitch Black 2012. I was honoured to be a guest of the Royal Australian AF at RAAF Base Darwin for a couple of days in August 2012 to photograph the air operations during the exercise, which involved the Australian, Indonesian, Singaporean and Thai Air Forces. These are some of the photos of the participants (many more, and in higher res can be seen in the Gallery on my website)

Nice shot, my first time seeing an Indon Flanker in their camo color.
Is that Asraam on the raaf hornet wingtip or a dummy?
Any thai gripen participated?

Thanks for sharing!

Yes, was actually in two minds about going until I heard the Indonesian Flankers were coming. After that, there was no debate about the (expensive) trip north from Melbourne.

All weapons were dummy weapons during the exercise. To my knowledge there was no live firing this time round.

No Gripens in 2012. As a side note, the Thai F-16s tanked from the RSAF KC-135 on their way to Darwin.

Experimental on F5E by pushing the ISO limit.
