The Space Shuttle Atlantis (OV-104) passing by the city-state of the Republic of Singapore one final time while simultaneously executing an Orbital Manoeuvring System (OMS) deorbit burn for an atmospheric re-entry and ultimately a landing back at the NASA Shuttle Landing Facility (KTTS), Kennedy Space Center (KSC) an hour later on the 26th of May 2010, 2048 hours Singapore Standard Time (SST).

Try for side/flank shots so that the lights don't shine directly into the lens. You can also clone out some of the flare. Currently, it's difficult to make out anything from those shots you've posted ..too dark and blurred.

In any case, dark background + dark subject + need for fast shutter speeds is a difficult combo. You'll need a really good high iso body and fast lens.

Thanks for the advice, I will try that on my next attempt.

Plane Spotters in silhouette to protect the innocents...

cheers
Hey, thanks for the effort to scan and upload the full page article though it is apparent that plane spotters got the "shortest end of the stick" by being allocated the smallest section amongst the trio group of spotters for the news report.

Since it was the final flight of that particular space shuttle, just thought I should make a worthwhile effort to document the mission from a local perspective. :)

Thanks for the advice, I will try that on my next attempt.

Was the areas within the immediate surrounding of the Padang crowded with bystanders and photographers?

Was thinking of driving down but the thought of the potentially nightmarish traffic and having to stalk for a parking lot shudder me.

Actually its on the stretch between Elgin & Coleman bridge; surprisingly ample space to snap pics. Only snag was the a/c were flying very high. Later part of the evening, surprisingly all areas leading to the padang were free flowing ; perhaps it was still CR1 and not many bother.

The whole flypast started at 1840 Hrs , the mobile column started by 1900 Hrs. Everything suppose to end at 2020 Hrs based on my observations.

Parking shouldn't be a problem provided you park 500m away from the venue and walk in.
The traffic advisory helped a lot in allowing you to plan your escape route after without much hassle.;)

The aircraft had to fly higher this year due to the height of the structures surrounding the parade ground (Visibility), as well as the MBS (Safety).. :)

I would recommend to take public transport or get there before 1pm, cos that's when they close up the key roads supporting the flow of the contingents and mobile column. Can expect some to close up till 11pm.

Caught this F-5T with tiger stripes markings! With the "30" on the tail, I think this is to commemorate the F-5 30 years of service in the RSAF?

I must say that the E2C is looking very good considering its age.
Except for that scorched marking on the underside of the starboard wing. ;p

IIRC, someone had previously mentioned that the tiger stripes was painted on that F-5T Tiger II to commemorate the squadron's 30th anniversary of active service. ;)
