Hi all.. Got my D3100 for about a month now.. Nice camera but I need some good lenses..
So far I've got the 18-55mm kit lens and a 55-200mm VR lens... am wondering if anyone could help me with below..

Telephoto Zoom
Was thinking of getting a 18-105mm since its much of a hassle tp change from a 18-55mm to the 55-200mm lens.. good idea? Should i keep the 55-200mm if I've got a 18-105mm?

Wide angle
Any good wide angle lens which not that expenive?

Prime
Thinking of getting a 35mm f/1.4 or 50mmf/1.8? Any advice and cost.. appreciate yr humble advice...

High ISO Test. All shot using ISO Hi2 = 12800.
I'm shock this $8xx camera can output these quality at such high ISO... What do you think?

direct offer i just ask for free lens protector the UV filter is 10sg the rest of the freebies was from nikon xmas promo there was a store offering the camera a bit cheaper i think the name was bally (same floor)but i got it from AP cause i got my last camera from them (fujifilm s1500) and im more comfortable with dealing with someone i know instead of someone else look for joseph low nice guy.... no hard sell on other items i dont need yet although i was looking for additional lenses he told me to play with the kit lens first and learn more so that i could decide what i need to buy next... its rare that a salesman will be honest with you instead of just trying to make a quick buck btw card reader and nikon cleaning cloth was included in promo

friend ... try this link
http://www.nikonusa.com/Nikon-Products/Camera-Lenses/index.page

it has all the nikon lens price is USD ..

35mm f1.4 will be really really really expensive if i m not wrong, it is about 3000 SGD... and it is FX (full frame) lens ..

AFS_35_G_i.jpg

but there is 35mm F1.8 with built in motor , cost about 330 SGD.
and it is meant for DX camrea like D3100. ( D3100 does not have built in motor inside)
this will be the best prime DX len .. i myself own one ...and it is a super good

AFS_DX_35_G_i.jpg

50mm f1.8 doesnot have buitl in motor as well. so , if u hook it up with D3100, you have to manual focus
cost about 200SGD

i tired that len before and it is cool but, manual focusing is a pain ..( may be it is just me )

if you wanna get ride of 18-55 and 55-200, try 18-200 len ..it cost about 1000 SGD ..
there is other brand which is compactible with nikon
tamron 18-200 .. a bit cheaper , something like 400-550
but i heard focusing is slow and pain.

that mean is pointless to get 50mm f1.8 in D3100?
must well direct get a 35mm 1.8 ?

Hi all, just got a nikon 35mm f/1.8. Best purchase to date. Very good for potraits in normal and low lighting. Pictures and sharp n "crispy". Thanks for the advice.

Real scary, esp buddha in pic #3 .... colors so real, image so sharp, can almost can "feel" the textures. Wonder whats the difference in IQ compared to the D7000.

i wouldn't go that far to say pointless, but 35mm f1.8 would be ideal choice. ( u can choose to practice manual focus in 35mm if u want to , as it has both auto and manual ... and u can override autofcous which is a nice touch. :) )
extract from ken rockwell blog
"The advantage of this new 35mm f/1.8 is that it autofocuses on the D40, D40X and D60, and that it allows instant manual-focus override simply by grabbing the focus ring."
http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/35mm-f18.htm

if u shoot still subject , manual focusing won't be a problem.
but imagine, u r shooting ppl walking / street photos and trying manual focusing would be quiet challenging.

but there are times you find that manual focusing has some advantages

i wish nikkon has 50 1.8 af-s dx .... :)
