Hi all
Just got myself a d3100, was considering this over sony's a33 but my heart goes with nikon.
Btw, any recommendation for a cheap camera bag? Where can I buy it?
Where you bought it & how much?
Thought some shop got free bag & 8GB SD..

MS color,$840 w/8GB SD & Tokina UV filter. Doesn't come with a bag, anyway i have got my bag in Sitex on sun.

All your shots looked damn good on the 35mm f1.8! I am so poisoned! haha
btw, Do you use Standard or Vivid for those images? or any special tweaks/settings to share? :thumbsup:

What lens are u using?
For a start, you can set your aperture to the biggest (lowest F stop number), and max your zoom. Then go closer to your subject and make sure the background is far away. That way will maximize the blur (called bokeh).
The lens play a big part... if you are using kit lens, then the background will not be that blurred. You need a lens with big aperture, such as F2.8, 1.8 or 1.4. F1.4 will create the best bokeh.

It's quite hard to achieve with the kit lens. Just buy a 50mm f1.4 and you can get those effect.

D3100 is very user friendly camera .
you should try guide mode.

i think, (most photos) i use landscape picture control. it makes photo vivid
go to shooting menu > set picture control > landscape

Just wan to check, wat does 50mm f1.4 mean. I know wat is f1.4 but if put only 50mm mean can't zoom or wat izzit ??

50mm means cannot zoom. Fixed at focal length of 50mm. Lens with big aperture mostly cannot zoom. Lens that can zoom alot mostly dont have big apertures (ie f1.4/f1.8). These are called prime lens. At 1.4 you can achieve very nice blurred background without having to zoom.
If you have a zoom lens lets say 18-200mm f3.5-5.6, you can achieve blurred background by zooming as much as you can. e.g 200mm at f5.6 <-- like that also can achieve blurred background.

Just bought my D3100 on Sunday! Been busy but managed to do a few test shots of my gf yesterday.
Here are the results!
It's been PP'd more than I prefer but my gf prefers it that way haha! Women...

Just got my D3100 from challenger $999 same freebies from the sitex though. Went down to SLR-revolution didnt quite like their service as the guy gave me the impression that want to buy then buy dun wan I can always earn it another day. TK foto $850 but no stock Ms colour $860 SLR-revolution $835.
So in the end I went up to challenger and bought from them as i quite like their service though and i am not really a fussy buyer just that i expect some kind of quality service given the amount of money I am going to spend on. But i might be going down to TK foto to check on their point and shoot camera getting a surprise gift for my wife this xmas since the guys here mostly purchase from TK foto, would definitely go down there and ge a point and shoot camera.
I am new to DSLR photography. But i did my price research on this new baby of mine. I haven tried using the camera yet as now still charging the battery. Cheers
