Hello guys, just got my 7D last saturday and now enjoying my new camera...
Congratulations! It's a great camera!
anyone shoot video using 7D? Have some question.
1) can i use any lens to shoot video? Heard we need lens with image stabiliser.
2) do we need a fast CF card to shoot video, what speed is recommended?
3) is shooting video bad for sensor? if true, then why Canon have this video built in that will spoilt the camera, make no sense right?

1) You don't need IS to shoot video, but it helps in handheld video recording.
2) If you are using your 7D for video regularly, it only makes sense to get a card with a higher write speed. Otherwise, your average CF card is enough.
3) No, i know people who bought a 5D II just for video.

2) i read that the 7D needs a min 9mb/s card. so a sandisk ultra will be good enough.
3) not sure, have not encounter any probs yet.

CF has MUCH faster throughput possibilities, but even for sports, the really fast SD cards can often keep up. SD is more fragile (although the slot is, imho, a far better design than CF) and easy to lose (I've never lost one, however), but on the other hand the CF slot in the camera is also potentially super-fragile, but usually not a problem.
We may get, sometime in the near future, a new standard that has the robustness of CF but the "slot-robustness" of the SD cards. It matters nothing to us now, since no cameras will take them.

I really like CF cards, but the only thing that worries me is the bent pin issue which never happens with SD cards. Although the issue is rare, it only has to happen once to ruin your day.

The 7D will probably go SD one day like so many other cameras. Or perhaps it will be a combination of SD and CF cards which is the route that Nikon took.

How can you let memory cards restrict your purchase of a camera ?
How about Sony? Most of their bodies use their own Sony memory sticks, yet many consumers chose Sony.

SD cards are continuously being improved. I am sure that someday they'll match the speed of CF cards. SD cards seem to be the way of the foreseeable future.
Look at how many types of storage media the computer industry has gone through after the 5-1/4 disk was introduced with the 1st PC! I am sure that the camera industry will go through the same metamorphosis. Better to accept and embrace change than to hold on to technology that will soon become vapourware.

Had this problem once with my old 30D, luckily it's only 1 pin and CSC managed to straighten it up and it's FOC as well ;p

Before I bought the 17-55 f/2.8, I seriously considered the 24-70 f/2.8 as well as the 24-105 f/4. I discounted the 24-105 f/4 because of the minimum aperture value (f/4). I discounted the 24-70 f/2.8 because of the lack of IS. Also, many of my shots originate from the 17mm side of the focal range.
In your case however, if you rarely shoot below 24mm, then the 24-70 lens may be a solution for you. As long as you are confident in your steadiness, the lack of IS should be a no issue. There are many who shoot with a 7D and 24-70mm combo. Good luck with your decision.

Had been using the 24-70 with my 50D and then 7D for a while now. I would say its produces very sharp images even without is. The magnifying number is also quite good although I always used it with close-up lens.
Should go for it, so far no regrets for me.
