hi all, went down to canon today. they say the shutter count under the battery info only show how many shutter count for every fully charge battery.
the actual count is not shown. is that how the camera work????

In a nutshell, "yes".

The shutter count with the battery simply estimates the number of shutter actuations you have left with respect to the amount of power left in your battery.

A more accurate count of shutter actuation's is done by file counts (the file number appended to each file or photo). But this has flaws too, because:

1. it will not include shutter actuation's completed when there is no CF card in the camera.
2. It is also subject to a maximum file count of 9999. Therefore if an actual shutter count is 22,182, the file count will only show 2,182.
3. Lastly, if another CF card is put in to the camera and the file count on that CF card is higher than the file count recorded in your camera, then the file count will "import" the file count from the CF card.

In the end, the only way to get a truly accarate file count from your 7D is to take it to CSC.

Hope this helps.

Just took my birthday gift snap with my new toy.

While i was busy trying to know my camera inside out, anyone knows what is 'Silent Shooting'?
Can be found under Menu - 4th Section -Silent Shooting -Mode 1/2/Disable

the mirror slap is slightly softer with silent shooting mode.

Ok.. but is it me or is that i don't find any difference :dunno:
how it works is that the mirror will go up upon you pressing the shutter button, and it will only go down when you release it.

so, you can reduce the sound by not letting the mirror slap down right away and move out of the quiet zone first before you release the button.

I just realized that I haven't reported in since I got my 7D back in Sept 2010 :D My fave part of 7D is it's amazingly fast AF! I've been trigger happy n now my SC stands at 9k+ already ;p but have made dozens of friends happy!:lovegrin:

Yes, with all of its bells and whistles, the 7D is a joy to use! :)
