Dear all,

The AF mircoadjustment is used for what?

1) Only used when your subject is OOF, back focus then we use the mircoadjustment to readjust the issue?

2) Every single lens we use have to go through this mircoadjustment stage?

Sorry for the ask as I am new to this mircoadjustment thing.

Basically microadjustment is used only when necessary, when maybe a certain lens that you have (eg. 3rd party lens) back/front focus . U can then do micro adjustment for it. Otherwise, if your pictures are coming out sharp, no need to do anything.

i used the microadjustment function for both my EF 50mm f1.8 and 85mm f1.8, +7 and +5 respectively. i felt a little weird to having to do so for Canon lens. should they be fully compatible with camera DSLRs? nevertheless, i am sending my camera and lenses to CSC for calibration.

anyone can share your views on the front/back focusing issues?

I have the C 50mm f/1.8, the C 80mm f/1.8 and a Tammy 17 50mm f/2.8. So far all the pictures i get are very sharp and do not need any adjustment.

So I think it's good that you send your stuff to CSC for checking.

I tried the micro-adjustment for my 85mm f/1.8 on my 7D. I did the adjustment based on the f/1.8 aperture. After the adjustment it was very sharp at f/1.8 (no back or front focus). But when I tried other apertures slightly beyond f/1.8, I did not get the sharpness I got with f/1.8. So I gave up and reset microadjust to zero.

I think that it is better to have the lenses calibrated by Canon.

Ya me too, I have tested +5, 0 and -5 for the 70-200mm f2.8L.

For +5:
@ 70mm, f2.8 it is not sharp
@ 200mm, f2.8 it is not sharp

For 0:
@ 70mm, f2.8 it is moderately sharp
@ 200mm, f2.8 it is moderately sharp

For -5,
@ 70mm, f2.8 it is quite sharp
@ 200mm, f2.8 it is very sharp


Then changed the aperture to test another round.

For +5:
@ 70mm, f8 it is not sharp
@ 200mm, f8 it is not sharp

For 0:
@ 70mm, f8 it is moderately sharp
@ 200mm, f8 it is moderately sharp

For -5,
@ 70mm, f8 it is quite soft
@ 200mm, f8 it is not very sharp, very soft

After the whole test, got so fed up, off the mircoadjustment, and then tested another round. Surprisingly, all is ok, just add a little USM in PS will do. Thought @ f2.8, when it is sharp at -5, I could stop the test, think that @ f8 it should be sharp too. But nevertheless I took another hour to test and disappointed with the results at f8, -5.

Strange stuff... Could it be supposingly, if we were to shoot in low light, say during indoor event, then I used -5 since I will want to use f2.8, then when during outdoor, shoot @ f8, reset it to 'Disable' mircoadjustment?

Anyone has the same thinking as me?

Yes, those were my findings too. In my case, I thought the the prime (85mm) would be much easier to micro-adjust. Unfortunately, that was not the case. Worse thing was, I would take 3 shots... all of them with identical settings, and all 3 would have have different results. Very frustrating. So like you I reset the micro-adjust and turned it off. ...sigh :dunno:

Isn't it normal to have the shutter count reset when each time you lsot in a new charged battery. Not sure about when you registered your battery.

I was taking a concert event last night. I have tried '-5 mircoadjustment' @ 200mm f2.8 and 'Disable mircoadjustment' @ 200mm f2.8. Cannot see much of the difference anyway.

May be your mircoadjustment feature is not working...LOL!

Not all lens will need micro-adjustment.
@icecy, if your camera still under warranty bring to canon and let them fix it.

hi all, went down to canon today. they say the shutter count under the battery info only show how many shutter count for every fully charge battery.
the actual count is not shown. is that how the camera work????
