Official Canon EOS 60D User Thread Part II

Yeah it weighs 2kg+ almost close to 3kg. I can't really hand held for too long unless you have a Arnold Schwarzenegger arms than different story. ;) Yeah its a EF70-200mm F2.8L IS USM but mine is a MK1 not the MK2. MK2 price is really far more ex than MK1.

but mine mk 2 anyway i belive all 70-200 are great lens

Hey, been using the tamron for past 3 months...other than the IS n USM, I've read that the tamron is as good as the canon! That sorta leaves me with the 16-35 or 24-70 but both fall short of my preferred range =[

these few days, i've been looking at canon 55-250mm f4-5.6 as my 2nd lens to cover more range for my planned holiday sometime next year. no doubt it's a cheapie lens but so far i've seen quite a few good pictures taken and posted on the internet.

i reckon, since you already have the 17-50mm plus the 2 other lenses, it should be good enough to cover street and portrait.

Yeah that should complement the tamron n gives u more range. I ended up bringing all 3 for my past 2 trips in Paris n Korea
- tamron for the main walk about
- tokina for landscape n architecture
- sigma for portraits n night shoots

Hi guys, im thinking of jumping to the canon ship, hope you guys can help me ans a few burning qns hehe

*how is AF servo like on the 60d? I once had a chance to try both the 60d and 7d and realised that the AF indicator lights do not light up like in a 7d which likda bugs me because i mainly do concert photography so i do need a AF point confirmation on continuous mode to ensure the AF is accurate. Anyway to turn the AF lights on? or any mod/debug tool?

also, compared to the 600d, the 60d isnt really priced much higher (~$200-300 diff only), is there any big advantage for the 600d (except for size) that makes the 600d priced similiar to 60d?

finally, has anyone owned a sigma 18-50 f2.8-4 OS? wondering whether it pairs well with the 60d as its a bargain lens haha. Im only afraid it might not be wide enough at times compared to my 17-50 i had previously on a 1.5 crop (25.5mm vs 28.8mm equiv diff)

thx all of you :)

Just curious... from which ship are you jumping and why? :)

As far as AF modes are concerned.... even on the 7D while in AF Servo the indicator light will not light up. This is by design. There are 3 modes on the 7D as follows:

1. One Shot - for still objects. AF light indicator is active and so is the "beep sound" when focus is achieved.
2. AI Focus - will achieve focus on still subject and if object moves then AF will switch automatically to servo mode and continuously adjust focus as subject moves. AF light indicator inactive however a beep will sound when focus is initially achieved.
3. AF Servo - for moving objects. No AF light indicator nor beep sound as focus is continuously being adjusted to compensate for moving object. Used often in sports photography.

im considering jumping from the P ship haha, im actually more into zoom lenses like the 70-200, and the sad fact is that the P camp still hasnt made one avaliable and i had to use either a sigma or tamron which both offered so-so IQ only. The limiteds are rather suited for general use / portraits which i rarely use so yeah, i find canon's lens lineup for suited for me :P. Also the AF-C mode on P is really sluggish (at least for my model) and takes very very long to realise my subject has moved 2m forward (missed a lot of potentially good shots because of that :()

regarding the AF servo mode, when i used the 7d (cant remember actual settings), the VF kept spamming red lights like a blinking christms tree as i tracked the subject. Not sure is this a custom setting or just some tweaking but i am not sure with the canon AF system. (this video http://cdn.sellpoint.net/canon/EOS_7D-01_Automatic_AF_Point.html shows somewhat what happens but i didnt have to chose a starting point somehow)

I opening a new thread as previous thread is up to page 52.

Lets share and learn from one another about this wonderful camera!

Maybe this thread can show off your toys!

let me begin!

Hi, just a curious question
I just bought my 60D recently...sadly didnt really get to try it like very very thoroughly
however, to me, i noticed that the shutter sound was like surprisingly louder as compared to my previous 500D
is it just me who is being paranoid, or is it common for you guys too?

Hi, quite a new user of 60D here..
I wanted to separate out FEL and AEL into 2 different buttons but ideally I want to retain the AF function in the half press of the shutter trigger.. Is there a way to do this?

Only found a way to separate the 2 but AF is on the AF-on button.. Quite unfriendly if there're occasions when I need to pass the camera to another person to help me take my photo... :P

Yea XXXD will sound more "electronic".
XXD more "mechanical"..

izzyzc, just check with u, how's your 50mm F1.8II lens? Do you find the motor sound weird?

It's good. Though, as expected, its AF hunts in low light.

Motor is buzzy, but does not annoy me. YMMV though.

Tha's good. Since yours also same, it should be fine on mine.

What is YMMV???
