If you want to use both CF n SD cards simultaneously, I think the overall write speed will be slowed down by the lower spec'ed SD card slot. If only use one type, then no big deal just go for fast CF card.

Why are you penny pinching on memory when you've already spent so much on the MkIII?

since we have spend so much money on 5dm3, i am sure most of us will spend on more reliable memory cards like sandisk extreme pro or extreme... which has faster r/w speed... but we cannot fully ultilize the sd card performance. maybe i am just picky maybe..

i've actually never had issues witht he SD card slot speed..
that's why there's a CF slot there..
I believe if you want a camera that can shoot burst mode in RAW and write fast, you'd get a proper sports camera ya?
The 5D3 wasn't made for that.
So far all the shooting i've done, the SD slot hasn't held me back. I only do occasional burst but it's not for long periods so the card speed is not an issue.
If speed is REALLY necessary, just use the CF slot.
In any case, i never write RAW files to the SD card anyways.

I never felt slowed down by the SD card slot using the 5D3, its fast enough for my usage even at burst mode.

Fast enough for me..i save to CF when shooting still & SD for video..

NO significant AF improvement? Are you kidding? 61 AF points vs 9 AF point, you are definitely misinformed

I noticed 5DIII seems to be slower than 5DII. Let's used center focusing to judge, I took Ministers' event when i focused it takes longer time when i triggered the motion which I wanted already out of focused. But not every shots. But I used 5DII perfect shots. Quality OF COURSE 5DIII is better. I was wondering WHY 5DIII seems slower focusing. Anyone used 7D, 5DII and 5DIII to compare? Pls do not used 61 AF it won't gives you the subject you aimed for. Thank you bros

Which begs the question, why aren't you buying CF cards and using the CF card slot?

I think he may meant that it's kind of a waste for dual card slots that is made up of CF and SD, since one of the test shown that when both cards are present, the write speed is limited to the slowest card, which is the SD, thus the author recommended to slot CF only - which defeats the purpose of having dual card slot.

But personally, I find it fine to use both CF and SD together. 6FPS isn't too much for the SD side to handle imo..

Well, the way he phrased it makes it sound as though he's only using the SD and not both nor the CF at all. But yes, I have used my 400x CF and Class 10 SD, writing RAW to CF and S1 JPEGs in high speed burst without issue, just have to be a bit more, how you say, forward thinking with the limitations.

Yup, I guess probably Canon wanted us to use the 5D3 in that way, while reserving full raw writing to both card capabilities to their flagship 1-Series.

I'm waiting for it to go back to 3999. Missed that boat a few weeks ago. Nikon D800 is at 3750$ already, canon should follow suit :D

Get it this morning at Cathay. $4150 payable by credit card, free 32G sandisk CF card worth $160. Price is there... Cheers!

Did you guys buy extended warranty for the 5d3? Is the $350-$400 worth it?

Also, did you attend the free training at Canon? I'm planning to go there even though I have been using my camer for a few months now.

I bought the warranty. Servicing a pro body is not cheap

my quotation with kit (24-105) - $5300, by card and foc B&W filter

The workshops teach you how to use a camera, it does not teach you how to use 5D MkIII.

Oh, there is actually a (free) training specific for the 5d3. I know from recent years Canon doesn't provide complimentary training for pro body cameras like the 5d series. But this year, I noticed there is one for the 5d2 and the 5d3. That's why I am curious. There is one session tomorrow and one in October. I might attend if schedule permits and anyway it's free.

If any of you attended the same session, do you think it's worth the time? Or youtube is our friend :-)

If you have the freetime, anything new to learn is good..

Never know that... Shouldn't canon tell us.
I should send my friend there to "poison" him ..

I think it is a good idea for Canon to provide free training to new owners, esp those who don't bother to read manual or google for solution. The training should help to solve a lot of "user-related problems" due to incorrect use of the system.

For the product training, you need to bring your camera there..
