OFFICIAL: CANON EOS 5D Mark III - User Thread - Part 3

The test was done buy a guy named "theSuede" who happens to be a technical expert on digital sensors, and I have read his contribution for years. If any of you guys want to question him, make sure you do your homework first. My advise is, just let it be and enjoy your 5D3 as it's a damn good camera.

Fred Miranda's tests are his own. He does not take results from others.

I know theSuede. He has been trampling on Canon's poor dynamic range for ages. :D He is a measurebator and not much of a photographer. Fred Miranda, on the other hand, is a photographer through and through. When he complains about the non-usability of the D800 live view function, the hopelessness of the Nikkor PCE lenses and the soft corners of the 14-24 f/2.8 lens, he knows what he's talking about.

Addendum: OK, we can now continue to discuss the 5D Mark III. :bsmilie: Please continue your rants on Canon's poor in-sensor dynamic range 'cos that is the only way to wake them up.

It is natural to have discussion-arguing. I believe most of people want to buy good product with cheaper price, 5d3 is a good camera, however it is not good enough because Nikon d800 has shown some monstrous powers and relative cheaper price (usa), It is a objective.

fans with brand loyalty have strong passion to defend, it is subjective.
Strong emotions are always mislead people.

What could we do now?

If you are investing a lot L canon lens and are not happy with 5d3, do not buy it now. Wait until 5d4 release, I guess canon will give much more revolutionary functions to 5d4, if 5d3 is not selling well in the market. However, it is very pre-mature to say such words, maybe a lot of people like it and buy it. Time will tell, have patience, DSLR market is not very competitive compare to other consumer electronic market.

New products are always pricy and have flaws, this is the rule!!

Is mk 3 selling well? I hear d800 wait list is long

yup, 5D3 selling v well, 3 weeks of restocking keep getting snapped up. d800 wait list is damn long because it is not exactly readily available for purchase

1st batch was sold out at quite a few retailers when the mk3 was launched. Canon was quoted in the papers commenting that the sales of mk3 is doing much better than when mk2 was launched last time.

D800 waitlist long is supposedly becos shops couldn't get enough stocks from Nikon. Apparently each time only get a few pieces. If I recall correctly people were also complaining street price of d800 more than mk3 in sg. Not sure if this is still the case.

eh guys . don complain too much la at least you all have some thing that can create a picture . . for me and few nikon users sold our camera and wait to update but cant even smell the camera yet

as far as i know, people who bought the 5d3 are happy with the camera, only those who do not have complain so much about it and i wonder why what is their motive?

Yup it is, Nikon rep at SAM told me they are not going to drop the local price which is still 100ish more than 5Dmark3 :/

Sour grapes?

I completely agree, those of us who are using it now have very few complaints. My only complaint is that Lightroom 4’s support for it isn’t official yet. The 4.1 RC is way to buggy for use now. :/

Haha. I won't want to be able to smell my camera!!

Thinking of getting a manual focus Zeiss 85mm 1.4 as a portrait lens on the 5D3. Anyone can advise how to focus accurately using the viewfinder for such a lens. Thanks.

Something to fess up to,

when i looked at the images on FM, i presumed that the 1st "before" processing under exposed images belonged to the 5D3, followed by 5D3 pushed and D800 pushed presented in sequence as the first image i looked at with the non-smoking sign matched the 5D3 framing. looks like the 2nd image with floor tiles shows the opposite where unpushed may be from the D800 due to the shadow movements from the trees.

could well be the unpushed for 1 was 5D3 and unpushed for the other could be from the D800.

Through the optical viewfinder? Can't do it because the screen is not changeable.

Thanks. If the DOF for and f/1.4 is so shallow, isn't it very hard to get the focus right through the viewfinder?

I'm a happy 5D3 user.

It will still beep when you achieve focus just that it is slower without changing to the EG-S.
