Purely gut feel. Thanks for the info. What makes you think that prices will likely fall in the coming weeks?

Just bought one this evening at Cathay Photo. Its $3999 for body only. Deduct another 2% if paying by cash. Price likely to fall further in coming weeks.![]()

However, since buying my camera, I managed to shoot around 300+ frames, more than 250 frames are keepers and perhaps around 10-15 frames are "large-print worthy".
So DON'T WAIT- just buy the camera. It is that good. If any bros on this forum is seriously considering this camera in the first place. I don't think $200-300 is gonna make lots of difference. Also, I have read many reviews and so called "shoot-out" between the Nikon D800 and 5D3 but after a while- it is a waste of one's "photography time". Just buy the 5D3 and enjoy it- and judge it on it's own terms and I believe many of you will be rewarded with great experience for many years until the "next best Canon" arrives.
Btw, I switched from Nikon D700 and Leica M9 and has not regret a bit.
Mind sharing why you did not upgrade to the D800/D800E? Just curious.
One of the probably unnoticed benefits of the 5D3 is
"The DIGIC 5+ processor also offers some new tricks, so along with peripheral illumination correction, we now finally have chromatic aberration correction on a Canon DSLR."
I didn't do any scientific testing, but I noticed that when I shot with the 28f1.8, the lens actually appeared subjectively sharper than on the 5D2. Eyes playing tricks on me? I dunno...but I liked what I saw. The 28f1.8 hasn't been known to be fantastic, especially on a FF along the edges, but this time, it looked fine. Sure its no 24L, but it was good enough.
Some users also commented that the fps doesn't "feel like" it reaches 6fps.
Please have a look at this review which did quite extensive testing with UDMA and SD cards and with comparisons with the D800:

This review also compares the mk3 with the mk2, so if you're interested, go take a look.
I prefer not to draw conclusions if there isn't properly performed tests.![]()
The corrections is nice if you need to shoot JPEG and quickly use it/send it/upload it after your shots, since most of the time you'd be processing RAW where it can be corrected via LR anyways ;p
avsquare said:yeah, usually all I heard is Canon jump to Nikon, but Nikon change to Canon seems a little rare ;p
I was shooting in raw.
what I mean is, the corrections is a bonus for JPEG to me lah.. since it can be corrected in LR if you shoot RAW![]()
What I meant is there is no need to correct whether you shoot in raw or jpg.
In this sense, old lenses seem to have taken on a new lease of life.![]()

I switched to Canon simply because I have never tried Canon FF before. Also, did not feel like waiting for D800E and paying retail price for it back then.
Ok, can also take it that I don't have much brand loyalty, ha ha!!!
But if I have more cash laying around- I might still try the D800E with 24mm 1.4G later. But by then, maybe Leica M10 is out...
See what I mean.
avsquare said:you mean the same lens produced better images on 5D3 than 5D2?
sorry if my understanding is a little off *blur sotong* :bsmilie:
avsquare said:I see...
Well I don't think there's any brand loyalty really. Blind brand loyalty sounds silly. It's always what the product has to offer to you and whether money is an issue to you![]()
How to install the 40mm 2.8 lens data to my 5d3?, my camera has the firmware 1.1.3
I was trying to find out more about in-camera corrections for different Canon lenses on the 5D3 but lack of success so far. So nothing's conclusive.
But if this feature is really working- I guess it will make me appreciate the switch to Canon more.
Any bro seeing marked improvement for their Canon lenses on the 5D3- especially for the supposedly weak wide-angle non L ones?
