yup I understand that. but my SanDisk Ultra 30MB/s CF card can take the max 20 continuous shots for max RAW + max JPEG from 1D4 (as specified by Canon), tried it and it worked fine

Not my pocket deep,just buying one the suits my shooting style.
Until now the 5D3 seems to poison me abit.
But iam afraid that I may regret losing 30% sensor size.

I am using lexar 400x UDMA 32gb, it show buffer as 36 even I set
Record to multiple on my slower sandisk sdhc class 4 15mb/sec. Whether SD or CF as primary have no difference in buffer.
Strange, this mean there is no advantage of
Buying faster card ????

that number is not the true no. of pics u can take at the rated fps eg. 6fps

you go try it.

my max 30 shots means that i was able to hold down the shutter and get 30 shots at 6fps before i noticed the distinct drop in the fps (from the sound). then i stopped shooting.

you try it with a slower card, it will prolly be less, say up to 10 shots at 6fps before it starts to drop in the fps.

my moon shot with 70-300L wasn't like that. I know it's a L lens, but it shouldn't be that "unsharp" right (for the 75-300)?

i mounted using a tripod and used the 10s timer coz the 2s is not enough.

that's one thing, but DSLR system isn't a cheap hobby either. and certainly, owning a 1D for a non full-time photographer isn't really a common thing, nor owning a 5D3 is a easy thing for majority of the DSLR users in SG. pocket may not necessary be deep, but def need some good funds to support.

1D is no doubt a good cam to own for anyone who can afford to own one, especially those who shoot vertical very often. the vertical grip feel of 1D cannot be matched with any battery grips

5D3 + 1D(something) is quite a good combi. 5D3 for FF and a crop comes handy when you need the extra reach. Once 1DX is launched, 1D4 is going to get phased out together with 1Ds3.. if there's no new line of body with APS-H, I think this sensor size may just be gone.

Using 500D, 55-250

Using 5D3, 75-300

Clearly from your test, the EF-S 55-250 lens is the sharper of the two which is consistent with what I've heard of this lens.

yeap, at 10x magnification, i was able to see if the image was shaking.

can see the moon was actually moving, wonder if you ever notice this. =\ is this common? or is my setup moving?

Getting a shot of the moon at it's 'fullness', can produce some very impressive photos however, it is not the optimal time to take shots of the moon. The moon during its various phases, other than the full moon phase, produces shadows that more clearly define its surface. This is because the sun is illuminating it from an angle rather than straight on as in the case of the full moon. I would suggest that you take the full moon shots as planned and then wait 10 to 14 days when the moon is nearing its half phase and take some more shots. Compare the two and see which pleases your eye better.

People who said 1D are for pros who make money out of it.
But I think the real pro who make money out of photography are those who carry more than 1 camera.
As a hobbyist,I prefer sticking to 1 body.
Thus the choice of my current camera.

If APSH sensor is gone,it may be sought after in time to come.lol.

IDK about the last part, cos by then, something superior than 1DX and 5D3 would be out.. it would be so superior to 1D4 that people who need that reach may just buy a longer lens or use extenders instead

I got a 75-300mm III usm recently for the 5D3 coz it was the cheapest. Got it for 200.

Decided to shoot the moon to see the difference between my 500d as well as the 55-250mm IS.

The results are quite clear. 55-250mm wins in terms of clarity.

All settings at 1/320 f/7.1 ISO 100

Seems like i have to save up for a L telephoto lens for 5d3 >.<

I strongly recommend people to get the EFS 55-250mm IS @ 240 over the 75-300 III USM @ 200.

The 75-300 III is a really soft lens even stopped down. I suggest saving up abit more and getting the 70-300 IS USM instead (if you can find it). That is a lens that nearly matches the 70-200 L's in terms of sharpness. Alternatively, if IS is not an issue, get the 70-200 F4. Thats another great value for money lens thats available for ~$700 on BnS.

haha i probably wont be getting any lens anytime soon.

the 5d3 and 17-40 is quite a big dent but i absolutely love them.

i got the 75-300 as i need to cover that range without spending too much.

probably be bringing 5d3, 17-40 and 75-300 to my trip.

still thinking of which lens to sell. i will not be selling the 500d.

the 50mm 1.8 and 28mm 1.8 is too useful to sell it.

only left the sigma 10-20, 55-250 and the kit lens. but if i sold these lens, 500d will be handicapped. =\

My take, sell everything crop you own, and just fund your FF range. You wont regret it. As for me, all i really need for my travels is my trusty x100 or 5d2+50mm . Pointless lugging so much gear around when you actually don't really need them.

There is a system limit on the max continuous burst depending on your file format. No matter how good your card is, once you hit that number, you can't exceed it. High ISO will also reduce the FPS also. You can refer to the manual for the table on how the file formats can affect the number of continuous shots.

wow, 20 shots full RAW for 5D3? Yours is the 95MB/s Extreme Pro I suppose?

Yes. Thats the 2nd fastest card in the market now, Lexar 1000x being the fastest.
