Is it possible to set the shutter button to half press=af+ae lock? I remember canon used to have this function.

Nice Photo!

You took 1800 shots on the Canon 5D Mk3 on a single battery?
Seems it's possible...

An excerpt from Engadget's review shown below...

"We were able to fire off 1,000 stills and a few minutes of HD video before the 1800mAh LP-E6 battery even hit the 50-percent mark, and made it to a whopping 2,200 frames before that compact rectangular pack went kaput.

We spent an uncharacteristic amount of time adjusting settings and using Live View, as well, so you'll probably see even more impressive figures."

somehow my battery never even survived the 500 shot mark. both are brand new, bought this year.

Think brand new batteries need a few charge and recharge cycles to reach its full potential bro. Also do you turn on the nfo page on the LCD when you shoot? That may be a big drainer on the battery.

Yup, I turn on the info page while I shoot to have quick access to settings. Didn't know that will drain battery that much D:

But it never have been that bad for my 5D2. The same batteries lasted longer on 5D2 really. :dunno:

Maybe the new image processor and AF system is more demanding on the battery? I suppose, just like a i7 processor is more demanding than a i3 processor.
For faster AF, more power is needed to drive the USM, I guess that eats the battery too.

Spot on and accurate tracking with 50L.

apparently funan is oos... even for kit.. zzz...

Anyone out there has this problem..or maybe it's not a problem but a feature.
But i realised the half press shutter focus lock only works if i use the center focus point ONLY.
If i set to use the center 9 or anything else, it continuously tries to refocus the moment i shift, even with the shutter half pressed…i wonder why...

I figured it out…After half press, got to wait for the focus to blink red first to confirm the focus before moving…cannot be too fast to move after half press hehe.

Yeah same here initally. However I trained myself to use the top LCD display to see the settings and it turned out to save quite a bit of battery.

I agree that the new processor will demand more battery juice for sure but some reports here seem to be almost double of the capability of the battery itself (1800 shots!!!)! Must ask them how they do it!

This thread seems to be much quieter now.. Think all the 5D3 owners all out to put their new camera through their paces... Just remember to share your pics people! :)

Can I check if u were using AF?
If yes,pls share if the focus is lock in,does those lock in focus points light up to show confirmation?

went out and shoots this morning, the battery is no issue. Quite ok one

I used AF on AI SERVO, and on Mode here it continues tracking the subject regardless of obstacles.

The focus point IIRC will disappear when it is in focus. But it depends on your setting. You can set the behavior of the AF confirmation points.

What do u mean by can set the behavior of the AF confirmation points?
Actually I wanted to find out if u were aiming at a subject who is moving, then suddenly another subjects comes into the viewfinder.will there be any confirmation points to make sure it is still lock in to the desire subject instead of the latter subject?

I was referring to Menu page AF5. You can set how the AF point display during focus.

But the AF point does not light up when another subject comes into the point. Don't make sense since AI SERVO has constantly changing distance every millisecond. You'll have to visually note the change in subject lock directly via viewfinder.
