Actually my mum has the answer to why the 5D mark 3 is selling so well despite the price tag...IT IS BECAUSE WE WERE FOOLED.

If canon had annouced that the 5d3 rrp is 3200USD(4.2K SGD), then we would have all complained why it is so expensive. Then when the actual price tag came out is really 4.2k sgd and street price selling at 4.2k sgd, nobody would have bought it.

BUT what canon did was to price it really high such that everybody was disappointed and felt that they couldn't justify spending so much money on it. Then when the actual street price came out as much lower than the predicted price, suddenly, 4.2k feels so affordable.

It is kinda like you go back for ICT in the army. Your officer tell you to expect a 3week ICT for the next ICT and everybody is sad and dejected. 3months later, mindef notification serve you a 2 week ICT notice. Suddenly everybody feels so happy that it is only a 2 weeks high key ICT, but in reality, 2 weeks is still bloody long.

RRP is $4699 for body... $4.2-$4.3 is street price, if you want RRP price, shouldn't you buy it from departmental stores like courts & Harvey?

unless you hope that it will be like Fuji X100 & X10 where all the dealer will be selling at RRP for initial batch & later drop price... than everyone will be like heart pain, i bought at RRP...

Don't think is af algo chip issue leh. This "design feature" also happens for 180L macro.

If there are long long queue at new property launch costing well over a million... and sold out within few hours..... this is not surprising at all.....

or could it be most poor people are found under photographer group

Wow, that's bad. I was planning to use this body with a long macro lens in AF mode. What about the new Sigma 180mm? Not sure if it's already shipping for EF-mount though.

Few days back many of us were predicting 4899 or 4999 rrp wor...then thur annouce 4699 rrp...today street price of 4250 really came as a suprise considering the anticipation.

Harvey norman in funan does sell at street price, just need to ask.

That's why I thought Sigma might offer a re-chipping soon?

harvey can bargain if buying big items but not many people is aware.

Got it at CP and was very happy with everything as I had to spend 6k some 2 years ago to get a 60D with 17-55F2.8, 70-200F4 IS and software. The performance of 5D3 is simply amazing. However, some problems processing CR2 as the files are not recognised by Photoshop CS5 yet. CR2 files of 5D3 can be viewed by the new suits of software provided by Canon. Well, I have lost touch with DPP and have to wait until after 22 March for the new CR2 to be supported according to Adobe.

Actually the CR 6.7 already announce before the 5D3 launch to market..

Adobe Camera Raw 6.7 and DNG Converter 6.7 Available on Adobe Labs « Lightroom Journal

Than in that case shouldn't everyone be happy because its cheaper than we expected ^^

I too expect to be $4.6 as if you buy from US and convert it, it will be that price

I discovered a fatal flaw with the 5d iii af system. Using a sigma 150mm macro lens(which the cam probably thought is the 180mm L), only 33 focus point can be used. It is actually pretty ok considering that the other bodies don't even have 33 af points, but the problem is that all the 33 af points are pretty much stuck in the middle, kinda like the outer af point spread on the 5d II. This is crap for af in macro considering that the dof is quite thin for recomposing...Apparently the 100mm macro can have all the outer af points.

Why is this so?

Always look in the instruction manual for answer.:)

Just a quick post about the talked about iso performance.for jpg it is really useable at iso12800.however when it comes to raw..the most is iso6400. Even that has noise.so i guess to use high iso..have to use jpg only

Pictures please!

Now all i have to do is to find someone who wants the 24-105mm F4 lens only so i can get my 5dmk3 ;)

My chipped nikon lens to canon body adapter ring doesnt work on the mk 3 now. Anyone tried?

Congrats. Did you pick up the 300f4 IS USM also? One major weakness of the 5D2 was low ISO shadow banding. Try some ISO 50 shots at -2EV, then during PP, try to lift the shadows and see the result. So far I have only heard about the good things about high ISO but nothing about low end. Cheers.
