I tell myself i don't need 5D MK3 cause
1) i don't do large print at all, not even 4R
2) i only post in FB/web, so after resize, the noise level doesn't really matter that much
3) I dont shoot pro. video
4) I don't need dual memory slot
5) I don't earn money from photography that can cover the huge cost
6) DR range? i'm too noob to know the difference when the pic is reduce to small size to be posted in web/FB
7) need more FPS? got cheaper camera out there.

LOL .. and i continue to dream of owning on (5d mk3)

Thought of buying a M3 or M6 but seems like very troublesome to develop the films by yourself. Seems like the developing cost is a long term cost plus all the chemicals and such. Long term digital will be cheaper I think. That said.. I am itching to buy a cheap film camera just to get the feel.

I used to do film in the pre-digital days. I enjoyed it because it was the only thing available in those days. But the quality is not as good as digital IMO... or at least it's very different. I read some time ago that a high end professional film camera has the same resolution as a 6mp digital camera.

Also developing film is very expensive and time consuming. When you have 24 exposures on a roll of film, you take photos with great caution and diligence. This may be a good thing in developing compositional discipline but it is very different from the automatic weaponry and machine gun capabilities of our digitals.

For anyone thinking of trying film, I would advise that you start by buying a cheap film camera and experiment. See how you enjoy it compared to digital and then make a decision whether to buy a more expensive unit.

I still have my film camera. It is a Contax RTS II. I haven't used it since the 90's. Once you go digital, you don't go back!

Oh well.... if I keep the 5D Mark III for 4 years, that represents only $1125 per year (based on $4500 original cost). That's only $3.08 per day. All I have to do is cut out my daily allotment of tea for 4 years. Can't be that hard, can it? Should be a piece of cake (may have to cut that out too).

Well you can help yourself alleviate some of the cost by doing some assignments. If you can cover the cost of 5D3 depreciation over the next 3 years, you basically don't lose anything.

For example, a new 5D3 body might cost $4.5k.

3 years later, it might be worth $2.5k.

So you just need $4.5k - $2.5k = $2k worth of photographic income to make zero loss.

Haha, we just want to make ends meet, but at the same time enjoy this wonderful piece of technological gadget don't we?

Its interesting to see that they went 7D with the Mk3, to some extent.

Other then that the Mk2 is already as good as it gets in terms of optical quality. I cannot find any improvement that would justify the purchase of the Mk3 unless, of course, the willing buyer is a first timer.

The other thing I notice is that despite the ever evolving equipment I have not seen much development to the better in the other hardware. I mean the one made of flesh and blood, judged by the mediocre works

displayed here in this very forum.

Guys, the cam does reflect only your skills, nothing else, even in full automatic mode. And if your skills are shite the photographs are shite even with an Mk3. And I estimate that 8 out of 10 running around

in Singapore on Sundays with expensive hardware around their necks dun really know how to take acceptable photographs. And taking boring skyline night shots is not worth it either.

The professional photographers (meaning they make a living out of taking photographs) I worked together with in the past 24 months were all using as their primary work horse either 40D or 50D. Jesus Christ, how the heck is that

possible?! Well, I figure it's skills that separates them from most of us - they know how to use the tool to the max.

Anyway, happy point and shoot with your new Mk3....

Yet there are professionals out there who uses 1D bodies....are you saying that their skills are a level below those who use a 50D? End of the day, everyone has a right to buy and use an equipment as long as they can afford it. It is not up to you to decide who deserves to use it or not.

Why should you be bothered if people who have medicore skills uses a semi pro camera? Does it "throw your face"? If so then I think the problem is not with those users but your own ego. Then feel free to move on to Hasselblad then or Leica S2 to uphold your ego.

Think from another point of view....if only pro professionals are entitled to use 5D, 1D bodies, I think Canon might come up with a new model only every 10 years....because the demand would be less and end of the day they are doing a business.

The same theory can apply to why are they using 40D 50D instead say 1000D or maybe pns if they have the skills that separate their godly skills from noobs like us?

Analogy: do you need to be a rally driver to drive a WRX or EVO? Like that most of us only deserve to drive Chery QQ.

all they care is the camera has clean high ISO, better FPS, able to take HD video, etc. these upgrade increase the rates of getting better picture.


but seriously, most of us don't really need most of those listed above.. its human nature that we just want the best and more. :smilie: if money is of no concern, just go and Buy Buy Buy!

3 years ago, when I first started photography, I attended the Canon training on the DSLR. Amongst the participants was a man with a 1D4. After the event, he was running around asking the instructors about the usage of the buttons.

I think it is fine for people to buy expensive equipment even if they don't have the skills, as long as they are rich Too bad I am am not one and I need to keep saving up for every single upgrade for this hobby of mine.

I agree. But don't you find that there's an increasing number of trolls who post in 5D3 threads to give their comments that people should not upgrade because 5D3 is not worth upgrading from 5D2? I really question their purpose and intention of doing so. They can't afford it? They think it is overpriced because while it is a 5-series, it is not as cheap as a 5D2? These comments will not swing decisions of people who wants to buy a 5D3, including myself. We just find them irritating.

How about we continue discussing on the 5D3 features?

I have been watching video clips of the 5D3 on youtube the past few nights. I am really amazed by it's tracking ability while in Ai-Servo mode. I think it will assist me a lot as I shoot mainly my 2 young kids, who never seems to be able to sit still And seeing those clean high ISO shots makes me really eager to get this ASAP, as I noticed there are many occasions when I needed to bump ISO.

I guess I will be getting the cam from Malaysia. Preliminary pricing have put the price on par with B&H (shashinki.com). It will be great if the shops sells lower than them. Tried calling up Johan Foto yesterday but they don't have the pricing for pre-order yet. Can't wait ;p

I am disappointed that they have not improve the software intelligent aspect.
Example: in Av mode with flash, can iso auto expand above 400 to have perfect balance of ambient and flash light?
