Hi,

I am actually a D80 (18 - 135) user (changing due to the weight of the D80 plus I want a camera that can do video as well) but I am intending to sell it and get a 550D with the following setup:

Canon 550D with 18 - 135mm kit lens (as all around day lens for travelling)
and EF50mm f/1.4 USM or EFS 50mm F1.8 lens (for night and portrait shots)
and maybe eventually to get EF-S10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM or Sigma 10-20mm F3.5 EX DC HSM

My question is:

Is it really worth the difference in cost to get the 50mm f/1.4 USM lens?
As for the wide angle zoom, is the sigma lens very much more expensive? And is it worth it to get the canon lens or the sigma one?

I use my camera only for travelling mostly. I dont like to carry a tripod around so small f-number will be better for me to get night shots or low light shots.
Can any brothers and sisters advice? Thanks!

I also think want to get 50mm f1.8 or 1.4

IMO, dun bother abt getting tat 18-135 kit lens...

As for UWA, sigma got few versions, f3.5 shld cost very near to canon 10-22. The others including tokina shld b cheaper.

Price diff very huge btwn 1.8 n 1.4... Willing to pay for better built n probably faster AF? 50mm might b too long but produce gd isolating n bokeh if distance can b met.

Other options to look at is sigma 30 or 50mm which cost 700+

Hi,
i'm new here and can I ask for some personal opinions regarding 550D like what's the good n bad thing of it and for a newbie to use 550D, is there any thing the seniors here can pin-point we should take note of to capture picture of clearer quality and such?

and if its not too much to ask, is anyone able to post pictures taken with a 18-55mm kit lens?

tia & sorry to trouble with such basic question (?). :)

New to dslr and got 550d + tamron 17-50
Love the camera and sharpness.
Understand the basics iso, aperture, shutter speed, dof, etc
Considering a prime for low light (refuse to get a flash)
Will need a tele for canoe shoots (read that plastic versions are not worth getting but not ready for $k investment)
Considering a course or outing, more interested in having fun than learning all the details (wonder if trying out as a photographer assistant can be fun)
Recently got a tripod sirui t1005x + g10 ( recommended in clubsnap ) and looking forward to night and other shutter speed shoots. T1005x is light without paying for carbon.

Any recommendation for next lens and course/outing?

it seems i can't use the Mirror lock up function with the RC-6 on the 550d and the best alternative is to use the 2 sec timer!

I'm using the phottix cleon II and have no problem in using the mirror up function..

You have to press once to flip the mirror up and the second time to start the exposure...

Hi fellow 550D users, just bought my 550D yesterday evening and immediately went across to parliament house to fire some test shots. Man! I love the IQ of this cam.... no tripod, no pp (just resize), no composition, just p n s.

I notice this thread hasn't got much posting recently, probably due to 600D & 60D being more new. I was thinking maybe we can post our photos here... or is there a thread for this somewhere in this forum? I'm not talking about the various section like landscape, macro, etc or alapaw, alapad.... but something where users of a model or brand can post 1 or 2 photos as and when they have ? Or should we start a thread for this? what do you guys/gals think?

Do you mean something like "Share your shots taken with *inserts camera model*"?

Wow, it's been some time since I have patronize this thread. Have been using the Canon 550D ever since it was launched last year.
