Try shooting shutter priority 1/60 sec to 1/200 sec.

i am going to buy the 550D , which lens do u use with your 550D? I want to get a good lens.

$100 budget - try kit lens or 50/1.8
$600 budget - try Tamron 17-50/2.8 or Sigma 30/1.4
$1500 budget - Canon 17-55/2.8 or Tamron 17-50/2.8 plus Sigma 30/1.4 or C 50/1.4 or C 85/1.8 or flash

I really like 17-40 f4L, the color and contrast and it's not too heavy for me. Some say the focal length is not enough though..

Yes you should if you want to have a shallow DOF. The lens is quite good at the price.

This lens is not for everyone. You need to let your foot do the zooming

Just pick up a copy in bns and try it out.. if u dun like it, you can always sell it away again
You might not even lose money doing so.. even if you do, just take it ad rental fees

there is one thing...I find it not so easy to mount on the 17-40 to the body, and I am very scared that the lens is not mounted on properly and then it will fall off. So if the lens is not tightly mounted on the body, will the camera still operate? I know this sounds rather dump but i am kind of worry ...

haha.. as long as you're happy with your purchase, anything goes! it's your money.. not anyone else's!!
