Official Canon 550D User Thread Part IV

Just bought 550D kit I last Saturday.
Where to buy dry box and how much?
Is it as effective as dry cabinet?

No, a dry cabinet is much more safe and more effective compared to a dry box.

it is much easier and less hassle compared to a dry box. a dry box requires lots of efforts to maintain it especially when one have to microwave the silica gels again and again. Thus in long term usage, a dry cabinet is a more worth while to purchase.

Thanks

From TK Foto. Sorry can't remember the price.

Is it fine to leave the camera and lens in the canon messenger bag and placed the bag in an air-con room whole day (as I have not managed to get a dry cabinet yet).

Hi Odyssey-Boy,

Care to share abt ur T17-50 f2.8, how u think abt it?

Pros:
- Sharp at 17 to 50 even at wide open f/2.8
- Lightweight, no issues to carry around
- Very good for traveling, events such as wedding or a birthday party

Cons:
- Focusing is abit slower than other lenses
- Focusing might be a little harder under low light
---- But can be solved by using a mini torch LED Light.

When i press half shuttle, the flash will blink a few times. Is it normal?

is it advisable to leave it ON ?

I personally dun think so... might scared the hell out of your subject when they least expect it.... on human wise i tk its way too bright...and not tactical too imo...

i suggest Turn it on only when required

Hi guys im also a 550D User. Just brought this camera around October. Have a kit 1 18-55 with Tamron AF 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6 Di LD Macro Zoom Lens. Tripod is Manfrotto 7302YB.

So far im in love with it and took many many photos but still up to the standard as still learning in progress. =P Currently also having projects on my job which no time to join in the 550d gathering. Hopefully after project i can join in and learn more about photography.

Btw I got a friend also brought a 550d body with Tamron AF 18-200mm F3.5-6.3 XR Di-II LD.

For me, hows the Tamron AF 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6 Di LD Macro Zoom Lens ?

Helping my friend to ask also, hows the Tamron AF 18-200mm F3.5-6.3 XR Di-II LD?

Need some feedback. Thanks =)

I got the kit II. Anyone has any comments how it compares to the kit I lens? How do you make full use and push the limit of the kit II lens?

Har Er Bin is very cold. I saw my cousin friend bring their 550D there and I think their insane because 550D is not weather sealed. I did not ask whether the the 550D survive.

Kit 1 lens mainly for portraits. Kit 2 lens is an extension of kit 1 ;p
Maybe u can get ND filters / tripod / wireless shutter release to compliment yr camera.

Happy shooting :)

i tried selling my 550D off and wanted to upgrade to 60D. But after my trip back from US, my thinking totally changed.

back in the US, the people still use old cameras such as 300D, 350D, D40 etc. But when they show me their photos, it is so different.

That is where I real think that, skills placed a huge monopoly in photography, skills comes first before equipments.

Yes. I totally agree. :thumbsup::thumbsup:
Taking picture to me is like preserving my memories ...lol...

Im thinking of buy a wide angle attachment for my 18mm-135mm kit lens. is it worth the investment? or should i save up for the wide angle lens itself?

The wide angle converter gives a huge amount of distortion and a high degraded Image Quality.

Shoot more with your 18-135 first. And if you feel that you really love to shoot landscape, took the plunge and get yourself a UWA.
