Official Canon 550D User Thread Part IV

Hi All,

I'm also very new to my first DSLR Canon 550D. Bought it in July 2010.
I'm aiming to buy a UWA Tokina 11-16mm lens. Anyone here using this lens with 550D.
How it is ?. example picture quality, compatibility.

Thank you.

Hi,

May I know how mush a canon EFS10-22 cost?. Let say brand new set.

Thank you

550D is crop body (APS-C sensor size) camera so lens have to multiply by 1.6x.

Meaning, 10-22mm lens when use in 550D is effectively a 16-35mm lens.

5D on other hand is Full frame thus 10-22mm lens on 5D no change...

For more reading/understanding http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Full-frame_digital_SLR

Hi, meaning that using the the Kit lens at 18mm, is actually 18x1.6mm = 28.8mm which is not as wide as 18mm suppose to be. right?.

Thanks

just own 550d as my new dslr, migrated from PnS, so buy 550d body + tamron 17-55 f/2.8 non VC as many would suggest in this forum.

Hi Odyssey-boy

I'm interested to know why you decided to upgrade from 550D to 60D? 60D really warrant the upgrade? From what I see, 60D got features I will rarely appreciate like swivel LCD, magnesium alloy body, higher burst speed. Hehe. Maybe you can enlighten me? Thanks. I'm also starting out. I have a 550D. I read IQ is similar between the two.

550D, 60D, 7D all use similar sensors. if you are looking at an upgrade from 550D:

-go 5DMK2 for the IQ or
-go 7D if you need more FPS

7D's IQ is roughly the same as 550D.

Nope, I once thought of getting the 60D, but felt that paying $650 more isn't worth it. Instead, I'm thinking to go for the 1Dmark3 or 1Dsmark2, coupled it up with a 28 1.usm

Hi all,

Have been using my kit lens 18-55 for sometime..

thinking of upgrading to T17-50mm f/2.8 or sigma 17-50mm f/2.8.

Which got better reviews?

Thanks.

Btw.. for f2.8 does it produce much better shot in low lighting compare to kit lens 3.5?

not fair to compare based on "better reviews" because the tamron has been around WAAAAY longer. depends on whether or not you want to pay extra for better focusing and image stabilization.

i would like you to define "better". a faster lens will make a difference between a blurred shot and a sharp shot. plus, for a constant aperture lens like the 2.8, you can shoot from 17-50mm. but the kit lens is only 3.5 along a certain short range.

Hi there

The LCD on top that is missing from the 550D makes a DSLR more "pro" though. Hehe.

But anyways, I'm looking to get a Sigma 30mm f1.4 for much better IQ compared to kit lens that I have now. And I want to take normal composition photos at standard field of view. Good choice?

the sigma 30mm f1.4 is quite sharp for its price and is sometimes compared to the 35L in terms of sharpness. Using a prime will definitely force you to think about your composition.

Hi all,

I am thinking of adding to my equipment..

got budget to buy one of the following only..

(a) Tripod
(b) External Flash
(c) Sigma 17-50 f2.8

Which one better? currently only have a kit lens. Tripod will help with better night photography. Flash for better shoot in low light. same as f2.8 lens.

All is good. Priority wise, i will get tripod first, then either the lens or flash.

i was free so walk ard city hall area. went into a 2nd hAnd trading shop. Just curiously ask what is the amount the shop takes in. The reply I got caught me off guard: "550d lousy camera. its outdated n stopped production. replaced by 60d which is better" I think the shop is just trying to justify the amount. i dun think 550d is that lousy.
