usually no need, unless u are really really afraid of knocks to the glass element. When i had my 18-55 i didnt find the need to get a hood cos i already got a filter and felt tat it was enough to protect the lens

I don't even use UV filter or Lens hod on a 18-55 if I own one. No point ..

How much does the dry cabinet cost? the one at the show? thinking of getting the EF S55-250IS Lens as well, should I?

I also would like to know price of the free dry cabinet and tripod if buy outside, if anyone know please. But the thought of going to the SHOW

Lens hood is useful under certain lighting, to prevent or reduce glare. Protecting the lens is not its primary function, although it does help for that too.

i usually get filters and hoods mainly for the protection purpose. Lens flare doesnt really affect me cos i seldom shoot in harsh lighting outdoors. But i agree that a lens hood can really does make a difference if u shoot with harsh lighting often. Whether u think buying a hood and a filter for a 100+ dollar lens is worth it, is all up to you though

DIY your own hood... use cardboard or anything else you can think of~!

there are always creative juices to be squeezed out.. especially for ppl who cannot afford things.. or are just creative by nature~! lol :bsmilie::bsmilie:

Does the SHOW price as per brochure include GST?

kkeke probably will get 1 but not from the show ba. Now thinking between 550D vs 500D.

Both bodies are similar to an extent, you can cpare price to price and it's depreciation.

hello guys, i am a new user of EOS 550D, hope will meet up with u guys and learn from all of u. I got a 17-50mm F2.8 lens as a walk about lens, and i am using a 85mm f1.8 prime for portrait. but i am pondering if i should exchamge to the 50mm f1.4 lens instead, as the 85mm lens seems quite tight. may i know if i should still use 85mm f1.8. hope can hear from you guys.

The $30 tripod in the cheaper package is probably not useful at all, so you are not really comparing similar items. Your tripod should last you a few years miminum, the cheap one will need to be replaced very soon.

This lens is a good lens to start out experimenting with. Since it is only 120, u can buy it, try it out, it u realise that u dont like primes, u can always sell it off without losing much money..

just beware that the 50mm f1.8 has a pretty slow and inaccurate AF system, but other than that, it is sharp n really value for money
