The sensor on a "full frame" body is about the same size as old fashioned 35mm film. The sensor on a "crop" body is smaller. So if you have a normal lens designed for 35mm film area its image will go over the edges of the crop sensor and you lose some of the view.
You get the opposite problem putting a crop lens on a full frame body - the view will be cut off at the edges because the lens image is smaller than the sensor expects so you get vignetting.
Read through the Canon EF Lens Workbook. It will give you a lot of information about this and many other aspects. You can download it as a PDF from Canon's web-site

earlier on we discussed about the limits of min aperture for 550D due to a diffraction phenomenon. after reading thru reviews, i found out that reducing ur aperture actually reduces sharpness not juz due to the body. the effect of this depends on ur camera model and ur lens but typically above f8 it begins a sharp decline so juz stay below that
Just to add on to the diffraction discussion
With all the science behind it, truth be told diffraction occurs at all apertures. If you recall physics 101 the diffraction depends on the diameter of the aperture, or hole, all things being constant.
Another key thing is the pixel packing density. Eg: on a crop body with the same megapixel as a full frame, the pixel density is denser. That's why the light 'spillage' occurs apparently sooner as you stop down. The diffraction pattern itself doesn't change.

The sensor picture will give a better illustration i think.
In summary - unless necessary don't stop down too far! If necessary, by all means! Better soft pictures than oddly OOF pictures, or so I read as i was studying on this topic haha.

Before buying I did a comparison between the Yongnou models (YN460, YN467 and YN468) and Nissin Di622. These were chosen because they are lower-priced as I don't use an external flash enough to justify big $$'s for it. My initial list include SunPak, Metz and of course Canon.
I picked the Yongnuo YN468 even though it has some shortcomings compared to others on my short-list i.e. power, price. What swayed me was the YN468's faster recycle time, greater power level setting range, weight and price. It was also (then) the latest and greatest offering from the company, claiming to support E-TTL2 as well. I think the YN468 is currently only for Canon, with support for N to come.
As stated before I paid about USD110 for the YN468 shipped in May. Came with a pouch. Some sellers now also include a diffuser which I did not get with mine :angry:

Hi everybody. Can the EOS 550D set the focus point in the view finder when shooting photos? I only know we can set before taking photos.

of course you can! Just the same procedure.. Looking into the view finder, click the focus point button and scroll... It's in the manual!

hi guy! got 2 questions,
1) i was wondering y everytime i rec videos, it will sometimes stop recording automatically after 5 secs or so. even though the memory card space still got space. any idea to overcome them?
2) during recording, whats the white bar on the right hand side?

1. You're probably using a Class 4 SDHC card given to you when you purchase 550D, right? That usually happens. Use SDHC Class 6 cards to avoid getting your recordings automatically stop.
2. The white bar at the side shows up when you're recording = the buffer whilst your 550D is writing to your SDHC card... Once the bar reach high enough it will auto stop recording.

wow u learn fast.. for a while i thot the bar was the ambient volume level.. so far seems like if theres not much action, a class 4 sd will suffice.
oh and good job guys! we owned the 500D thread cos we're part 3 now when they only part 2
