so am i right to say its better if i get a 18-200mm or maybe a 55-250mm? hmm by the way, what are the terms used by the 3 third party lens maker for IS (image stabilization)? :D

its up to u, which one fits ur budget. a 55-250 can be had for $250 and a 18-200 for $800. however u need to change lens for 55-250 which can be a problem esp when u are in hot tourist spots with lots of ppl. to play safe dun switch lenses or u may get robbed. there are alternatives to canon 18-200. sigma and tamron make lenses of similar focal range. sigma image stabiliser is called OS and tamron is called VR (i think)

thanks for that info.
anyway is there any 3rd party lens that you can recommend for my budget of below $500? i already have a 18-55mm, and im intending to buy 1 for my holiday to the great wall of china

You can try sigma 17-70 in bns for about 500+ or a second hand 18-135 if you are looking for longer range. In my opinion, u r going to great wall, so u need a wide angle, u probably want to get a decent tripod and a wide angle lens instead off considering longer range lenses. U can try out the diff wide angles from the different brands without the canon 10-22 being the most expensive for crop

lol i dun hv much experience with holiday shoots. my first holiday with a dslr is to redang. found the need to change lens a hassle but not overly so as there was no fast paced stuff so got time to slowly change lens. that time i use a 18-55IS. now i hv the 17-70, i think i am better equipped but there is room for improvement. usually the longer zoom lens have lower image quality as a tradeoff for wide range. For below $500 i suggest u get either a 3rd party zoom lens or a 18-135 for the time being. when u get more cash u can upgrade. alternatively u can go to the other end of the range and improve the wide angle side with the 17-70 ($450) or 15-85 ($900) I do not recommend the 17-85 as it generally has lower image quality than even the 18-55IS. i'd offer u my 17-70 as im not using it anymore but do note the limits of 70mm and the benefits of 17mm for landscapes ;) hope u find ur perfect travel lens

anyone ordered battery grip (meike brand) ?

seriously wonder if there's any difference with phottix and other 3rd parties

Don't know. Think killerslayer92 mentioned before that looking from the design and position of the screw point, it should be the same.

Anyway up to you to decide. But there isn't much different in price btw Phottix and other 3rd parties (in eBay), so why not just get Phottix?

Hi all,

I finally got my Sigma 30mm f1.4 from SLRR @ S$715 (with GST). It has slight front focusing issue too but warrenty by Sigma Singapore.

Will make an appointment for calibration. Anyone tried ad hoc walkin without appointment? From the call I gave them, it seems like they do not entertain walkin. I hate to make appointment and yet they entertain walkin..

Dear Pros, regarding ITTL wirless flash trigger, will it work if my flash is NOT CANON? Will 550d-iTTLtrigger-SB600 work? or these triggers only works if both the camera and the flash are the same brand?? please enlighten. Thank you.
No, different commands.
Wireless ITTL not compatible with Wireless ETTL.

do you mean this Sigma 17-70mm F2.8-4.5 Macro lens??

either the 17-70 f2.8-4.5 macro or the 17-70 f2.8-4 OS HSM macro. the latter is an upgrade to the previous so is more ex and may be out of ur budget. brand new 17-70 OS cost $800. BnS 2nd hand easily sell for $650 (cos most are 2-3 months old due to the lens being released only recently). if u get the 17-70 non-OS, last time i checked its sold out and stocks are not coming but u shld go check urself. if u want a 2nd hand can go check BnS, roughly $450-$500

Nice image from Sigma 17-70mm OS if focused correctly!!!

Sigma 17-70 non OS is typically ~$400 range, slightly below Tamron 17-50mm though.

Just back from japan..tons of snapshots lol :bsmilie:

Docs says 17/2.8 24/3.2 28/3.5 50/4.0, but I get change from 2.8 to 3.2 at around 18-19mm reading from barrel :(

That is for the Sigma 17-70 mm f/2.8-4.0 DC Macro OS HSM

Is there a straight constan 2.8 for sigma ? lets say 24-70 2.8 ? i heard theres one 28-75 2.8..

There is a sigma 17-50 f2.8, heard good reviews about it. The 28-75 is from tamron I think.
