Ask yourself, what you think it's lacking in your 500D? Do you need that fast shutter speed? 9 focus point not enough? need to shoot in low light but the high ISO gives alot noise with your 500D bothers you alot?

My next body will be a FF. that's just me. so you should think about what you need, not what you want. don't get influent by the BBB virus. haha

Agreed with Bullseyez.
No point going along with the flow/BBB virus.
I'm a happy owner of the 500D! :)

Me too, happily using my one yr old 500D and still shooting and learning.. :D

Well I am considering going to FF for next body but keep my 500D for birding due to extra reach. FF is more of due to high ISO performance and to better utilise my 135mm lens as a portrait lens. But still loving my 500D nevertheless, just that I have put it in real good use by shooting everything including going to shoot animals in vegetation and it has shown signs of wear and tear haha...

@ gundamseed84: Thanks for your advice. maybe I should go back to basics then. by the way is there a workshop conducted monthly in where we could attend and learn more about our
DLSRs. just wondering maybe you could give a good suggestion. thanks in advance.

I thought this thread is closed already , it's became obsolete gear .

Hi. I am intending to buy Canon 500D. Do you know where can I get a better price?

Hi,

I just upgraded from SX20 to 500D a couple of months ago, loving it for my first DSLR.

Here's a recent photo of mine with a little HDR PP to it.

Btw, is there any 500D users with the 17-55 lens ? Hoping to see some sample photos ;)

hey guys.

I m a 500D owner myself. Loving it for teaching me e basic.

but now, i m thinking of changing to a new body [next year].

shud i wait for '600D' or get a smaller digit model [but not FF. a few more years til FF.]??

wad do u guys think?

i like 7D and there is a rumour that 7DII coming soon. should i wait for that?? :bsmilie:

i want a better ISO performance & cleaner pics. Frame per second not important to me.

hmm, just my personal opinion.
you can aim for a FF, i have highlighted some words that a FF will enable that 2 areas which you desire.

I think in all honesty, 500D can teach one the basics and more, not just the basics :)

if u ask me, upgrade from 550D to 600D, then i am going to ask you again, after 600D, upgrade to 650D and so forth? is there any purpose or point to upgrade except u get more megapixels and maybe some new features on the cam?

if u really want to upgrade, i advise you to go next level up.

either the XXD series for better non plastic build, 7D series for faster fps (this is not your concern i know) or even FF for better ISO and what you see is what you get focal length.

now that is what i call real upgrade.

i was a 450D user last year but this year i am a proud 5DMKII user now cos i like better ISO and of cos WYSIWYG focal length which 7D cannot offers.

Hi Canon 500D,

My camera will expired on Dec 2010.
I have read numerous postings on Calibration and people sending their camera in for calibration.

Is this calibration software or hardware related? Can the camera be taken into a local store to have done, or does it require to be shipped to Canon directly. Is this covered under warranty? and those that have done it, was there a significant improvement? Please share your info. FOC for in-warranty?

Thank you all in advance for your help!!!

calibration? i guess you are referring to Lens Calibration. normally when u have front or back focusing problem, you will send your lens and ur body to do calibration. unlike higher end model, 500D cannot do micro calibration for lens.

to me 17-55mm could be the best crop zoom lens for crop body. but it does not mean u can't get good pic with kits lens. below photo using 18-55mm :)
