Official Canon 500D user Thread (part 2)

Thanks Oreos and Shane for the tips! Will try to post up some improved shots soon....

Hi everyone! I've only been into this community for a week only. :)
I bought a C 500D in the previous IT show, had a great time deciding on 550D or 500D too.
I got a question, which is better, UV filters or MC UV filters? Whats the difference?
Thanks!

Anyone? :dunno:

Thanks for the great help! :)

Hello ppl. Just wanna ask, if you already own an eos500d is it worth it to upgrade to 550d? Lets say u have the budget to do so. Pls elaborate, thanks!

Not a wise move at all. Apart from minor things like:
-Resolution (18mp vs 15mp, hardly noticeable in real life),
-New metering
-ISO 6400 as standard (too noisy to use except in emergencies)
-Improved video (if you use it)
-Slightly wider screen
it's practically the same as the 500D (small plastic body, cramped handgrip, 9pt AF, etc).
If you really want to upgrade but still stay with APS-C, the 50D or 7D (budget permitting) is the way to go. The larger handgrip and solid body construction of either of these 2 models make a tremendous difference in handling and are worth the upgrade alone, not to mention much faster continuous shooting. I've only just upgraded from a 500D to a 7D and am happy as a clam. My only regret is that I didn't get the 7D sooner but then again, it wasn't available when I bought my 500D mid last year ;p

I heard that 500D is able to do time lapse? Just wanna check if this is true? E.g like presetting it to take a shot every 30 sec? Or have to buy a timer control for that? I cant seems to find anything in the manual. Thanks for the advice...

You need external timer trigger.

Got a noob question to ask,

Uhm, I'd say that protection against the seawind is hard, but I reckon a wipe down of your SLR system when you're done with a damp cloth should be ample.

Your EOS Utility can do that.

There is a SnugPro DSLR Protector for 450D at the mass sale section, u might be interested in.

Yeah, the CD. There is a software called EOS utility.

so i download it in my pc? Does that means i need to lug my laptop along wif my cam in order to prog the time lapse?

If ur timelapse shooting allows a laptop, that is. Your Camera is going to be on a tripod anyway.

Hi, can anyone give me a rough gauge of 500d price?

Sorry if this isn't the thread to ask, please direct me to the proper thread.

TIA
