Official 600D Users Thread

600D now RRP $1049 body. Can also pay $249 for an EF 75-300 USM, purchase with purchase. Seems like a good deal. Plus you also get free 8GB SD card and EOS bag. Anyone got this deal yet? (Today paper, Sep 23. Pg 64).

The EF75-300 is a discontinued lens. Issit good?

I also got mine 600D recently at the Comex 2011 and got the 55-250 PWP @ 199 which is a very good bargain. But personally, if budget allows, I wud rather buy the body and get myself the 15-85 n 70-300 which IMO wud b an ideal set up.....

The 15-85 has a very good review which rate it as an "L" lense IQ quality at an afforable price.

I think you would be better off with the 55-250IS instead. Frankly speaking IMHO the EF 75-300 USM is one of the worst lens (in term of IQ) that Canon made in that focal length. If required, I would rather pay abit more for the 70-300 DO or L instead.

I do have the 55-250. Its pretty good, IQ wise, despite the minor issue with the lens cover at the camera end. Anyone else tried the 70-300USM before, besides Anson?

Go to canon service centre and enter the PPP to get the 600D at a 19% discount over their shelf pricing. That's much better. Got free sd card and EOS bag.

The tamron 17-50 non vc is a good lens to have.

Actually if you don't mind can also get from b/s section. Got people selling the 600D there also.

Get the Canon 580EXII. or the Nissin equivalent if budget is a factor. The nissin is fully ETTL compatible. Alongside IR wireless flash triggering. Just that cycle time for recharge is not as fast (on paper). But IMO is not even noticeable

I suggest getting k2 and learn the basics of photography through this set. You will then find out which lens suits your shooting style. Sigma 17-50 has the advantage of constant aperture at f2.8 whc is suitable for lowlight shooting but has shorter range olso more expensive. Btw what type of picture u like to capture?

Hi Maldito,

May I ask which is better? EF-S 15-85 or Sigma 17-50 in terms of IQ and also if I'm not a strong flash user, would 430EX II be adequate?

Thx

you are comparing 2 different lenses.

15-85 has longer range but a variable aperture, while 17-50 is shorter but with a fixed f2.8 aperture throughout the zoom range.

depends on what you want, whether you need the extra 35mm or the brighter f2.8.

and yes 430EXII will suffice for most users.

Thx dude so we can't compare their IQ? As a beginner, focal length is my ideal set up like I'm using kit I n 55-250. So basically I have a focal length of upto 250.

So if I get de 15-85 my paired lens would ideally be 70-300 so it doesn't overlap too much n if I get 17-50 I could always stick to my 55-250. Correct me if I'm wrong sir. :)

i will not be overly concerned about the overlapping range, especially if it's just 15mm.

either combi will be good, for now you just have to shoot more to understand your style, then purchase your lenses to aid you in making more photos.

Sigma 17-50 can be compared to canon 17-55. You might be surprised to know that sigma is sharper than canon however sigma tends to be softer on the coners. The focusing of sigma is fast and quiet but not as good as canon. Some people prefers sigma because its lighter and cheaper. If you can get a sharp copy it is a good alternative to canon. Tamron also have a similar model but their model has noisy motor and it haunts in lowlight situation. Canon 17-55 is my walkabout lens And it has served me well. It is currently dubbed as the hidden "L" lens in IQ but not in build

it's normal for someone who is just starting out to BBB. try curb the wants and focus on your needs instead.

in the long run, you will save more money without having to buy lenses which will be deemed useless to you.

my 17-55 is pretty sharp throughout the entire frame, one of the reason why i got it, cause' the 3rd party offerings are touted to be sharp in the centre and not as good as the canon in the corners.

USM is fast fast fast, no 2nd doubt about it. actually i feel that the sigma is pretty good, in fact better than the tamron, albeit at a higher price.

If youre planning to go deeper into this hobby then go for 580 exii. This flash is more powerful and it is a good investment in the lomg run. Think how much dedicatiom you can put in photography, and determine which equipment suits your needs dont buy on impulse. Avoid the buybuybuy virus
