Sold my 450d yesterday and bought the 600D today! Going to buy an OEM battery on ebay - any sellers to recommend or avoid?

Why not go to shops and buy? The phottix battery is $20+ :)

Sadly normally you won't be able to tell till you get the battery. Fortunately eBay has a pretty good buyer's protection policy in place.
Here is a website perhaps you will find useful :)

Interesting read. Amazing disparity between good and bad copies. The ones i'm looking for are not 'fakes' per se, as they don't pretend to be Canon batteries (no logo) just good quality OEM batts. I've had good experiences with a Canon LP-E5 compatible 3 years ago and it's still going strong on my 450d and another for my E-PL1 last year. Both off ebay. I am aware you might get dodgy ones that explode too; thus my question.

Me too sold my 450D ... looking at 600D, tamron 18-270 PZD and a Canon 50mm f1.4..... can I ask for advice whether this set is fine for travel?

It's a great combi for travel :)

For 2 - 3 weeks I was considering between the Nikon D5100, Canon 600D and Panasonic G3. Today during lunch I finally took the plunge and bought a 600D Kit II at $1450. Freebies includes Sandisk 8Gb class 4, EOS bag, Tripod and screen protector. Hope I did not make a wrong decision, next hoot will be a EF50mm f/1.8 II and then I will use this for nong nong nong time

Skip the 50mm its nothing to crave about, i would suggest getting external flash. It will open up a new world to your photography

The 'nifty fifty' is a MUST buy. Only $100+ new ($80 used), its a no brainer! Cheapest f/1.8 lens out there and dont forget it is very sharp when stopped down (f5.6 - f8). True about flash opening up a whole new world too so my suggestion is get both!

Need to use tripod or increase shutter speed to 1/60 at least, as it do not have IS.
