Hi bro raydio and guys,

Not a user yet but considering between Canon 60D and 600D. I hands-on in Vivo the 60D and quite like the robustness and grip. However I was turned off by 2 things: The redundant mode dial lock button and weird directional buttons within the thumb wheel. I like the fact the 600D has the mode dial on right (too used it with my old Canon S5 IS) and lighter weight. I'm also considering Sony A55 because of the fast AF and mad burst rate.

I'm a newbie to DSLR :) My newbie thread http://goo.gl/V9X2j

Bro raydio, I know you are a 60D user. Any thoughts? Thanks :)

Hi bro Tucksoon;
Welcome to the 600D thread. Its always fun to buy new cameras and lenses but you always want to make sure that you buy the right equipment.... so I can understand the dilemma that you're under.

As far as IQ is concerned, whether you buy the 600D or the 60D, it won't make much of a difference. The sensors are identical in either camera. You're hesitation to buy the 60D is understandable but it won't take long for you to get used to the "troublesome" buttons.

I am assuming that this is you're first DSLR purchase? As you use your first DSLR, you'll quickly come to a point where you've "outgrown" the camera and wish to upgrade.... that's what happened to me. My first DSLR was a Canon 400D. Within months I was ready for a Canon 40D and I never looked back. If you buy the 60D, this may be less of an issue.

One thing that we all need to remember when buying a new camera is the fact that good lenses are always a better investment than a camera body. Which ever camera you decide on, try to buy a good lens to mate it with. One that I would highly recommend is the Canon EFS 15-85.... very sharp lens, great IQ and highly reviewed. If you can afford it, the absolute best lens in this range is the Canon EFS 17-55. While cameras are upgraded often, lenses are far more permanent.

I understand that you are also considering the Sony A55. The A55 is a great camera and will rival anything that Canon or Nikon offers in this range. However, most experts will agree that the lenses from Canon and Nikon are rated slightly higher than Sony's. This is a very important consideration. Photozone is a great website to do research on lenses before you purchase them.

Good luck with your purchasing decision. I hope that the advice that you've gotten here and elsewhere is useful. Don't worry about making a "wrong" decision because there is none. Camera bodies are all very good and produce great IQ. It's the lenses that you have to be more careful about. :)

Thanks bro Raydio! Your advice is very useful :)

Diopter?

Anyone tried the 600D and matched it up with the 550D? I want to know the diff apart from the screen. Thanks.

I think it has the "add effect function" I.e miniature, fisheye.... modes. Not that these are important for a dSLR
