Although not digital, I still have a Contax RTSII Quartz film camera I bought in the eighties that still works perfectly.

Film and digital are different as digital have more electronic parts and a digital sensor. IMO, digital cameras do not last as long as a film one.

I agree. I have more confidence in the robustness and longevity of the SLR than the DSLR. However, I prefer the convenience and cost of "developing" my photos with the DSLR.

I have been using my Contax RTSIII since 1994 till it was retired in 2010 when made the digital switch. It's still in good
working condition had never failed me

I might want to get a film SLR again (used to own EOS 500 and 30) for its ability to use positive slide films!

I second that too. I came from the film era and even until many years of using digital, i only take what i needed. Thus my 5D's shutter count is still low (around 20K).

Yes, my shutter count is still less than 25K. The only time I use my 5D like an automated weapon is when I take a BIF.

I only do that in stage performances and aerial displays.

WA just saw a 5D with serial number starting with 5xxx in BnS, never knew there's actually a "5" series before that

Mine starts with a "3". I guess my 5D must have been manufactured some time in the 1700's....

Found this interesting tidbit on the Ken Rockwell site:

"My Canon 5D, bought around November 2006 when Canon was giving a $600 rebate and with a serial number beginning with 1, has the worst, dimmest and most off-color LCD I've ever used, just like the 30D. I hear that the latest 5Ds, as of at least December 2007, have an improved LCD, with serial numbers beginning with 2."

Wah i never go take note of my 5D's serial number, only know that i bought it in july 5th 2007.

lol mine is 09.. But the only problem with lcd is so small. No off colour **** le.

And thats the reason why ppl want serial no 2 onwards, but no diff one eh.

The the image on the 5D Classic LCD is not one of the strengths of the camera particularly when compared to the newer LCD's.

Sometimes after taking a photo, I take a quick look to see it on the LCD and it doesn't look all that great. Then I bring it home, put the same photo on the computer and it looks 200% better!

I find the LCD good enough. It is certainly better than my Olympus E520, which is a few years newer.

The purpose of the LCD is only for preview and chk composition. The main screen is still your computer's.

I use the LCD to check for focus accuracy as well. It does not matter to me that the shot looks different on the computer - I usually process my shots a few weeks or months after shooting.

Scrambled to check mine and it starts with '1' but I find the small LCD colour ok leh but no problem as long as it gives me plus size pictures :bsmilie:
