But for birding a crop body might be more handier unless u have very long lenses.

Yup, that's true but you know what...the IQ i get out of the 5D versus that of the 50D in terms of the colour and bokeh...all i can say is that the 5D "no horse run" when i use it for birding. It would be great if i can afford longer and faster super teles...but well...i am happy with what i have becos i use what i have to take photos that make me happy!!!

My ideal FF camera is someting like 5D with 4" screen, 18 mp, 8fps, built in speed light transmitter & 100% view finder

My ideal FF camera would be a 7D with a full frame sensor plus:

1. Built-in GPS
2. Built-in wireless file transfer
3. Automatic self adjusting continuous lens calibration
4. User controlled varying mega-pixels from 10mp to 32mp
5. Built in 1.4x and 2.0x teleconverter inside the body... I don't know where they'll find the room but I'm not an engineer!
6. Downward price adjustment to only $500 per unit

Let's keep to our bEloVED 5D on this thread...your ideal FF cameras can go start another thread coS SHE gets jealous easily...besides this is her thread anyway ;)

U really pay for what u get. FF and APS-C are really in a different class altogether.

Thanks Snoweagle... that's a pretty good endorsement.

I think  that I may rent a 12-24 for a day or two and try it out myself. The only problem is that I am condemning myself to be poisoned! ... and then it's BBB! :o

Thanks for the compliment!

Well, if u really want to get the Sigma 12-24, u might want to get the version II. But one thing with this 12-24 is that most shops do not carry it.

Reviews for the 12-24 II are starting to appear on the internet. Looks promising as many are claiming increase in sharpness. Very nice if it's true as there's no big increase in price over the first version, but given Sigma's spotty QC, it makes me nervous.

Looks like we have at least 3 pieces of gear in common: 5D, 7D, 17-40. Might add a 4th since I'm also considering the 12-24 II. I was tired of waiting for Canon to release a zoom wider than 16mm that I almost considered the Nikon 14-24 f/2.8, with EOS adaptor. But paying so much for a MF lens was hard to justify.

I used to own the 17-40 before selling it for the 12-24 and so far I prefer it more than the 17-40 as to me, the 17-40 is still not wide enough. The 12-24 is my main walkaround lens and I usually use it to take buildings and cityscapes.

Hey want to ask a noob qn. Notice sigma 12-24 spec mention cannot mount filter. Is it correct? Deciding between 12-24 sigma and canon 17-40

Yupz due to the protruding front element with fixed hood that makes it unable to accept front filters. It only accepts rear gelatin filters.

Arh understand but still can out gel filter at back. Well I guess sigma and canon are ok lens. Depends what your needs are and budget. Canon17-40 and sigma 12-24 abt same price I guess???

Hi guys ,

I am wondering if anyone here knows what's the cost for the following?
1. sensor cleaning and
2. also have the front wheel replaced since not working.

Thanks,

And another thing.. I would be using canon 24 f1.4 & 85 f1.2 prime lenses with either 5d or 7d

Actually Tamron lenses are also not bad. The 17-40 is actually cheaper as when I bought the 12-24 that time around over 2 years back is $1312 while the 17-40 is only about $1.1k.

Bro you come to the 5d user thread asking which one would we prefer... well the answer is clear... read the thread name.

A FF can also maximise the lens u are planning to get. Go grab one now at the friendly mama shop round the corner before it runs out

dun waste your lens on 7D. To maximise your lens, please get 5D.

I have both. While 5D is really nice, 7D has its strengths. Burst rate, AF, liveview, and video are some of them. Smaller things like sensor cleaning, better power on-off placement, 3 custom settings, and larger LCD are nice as well.
